Isabella looked at Alzerion and saw the gashes and rips to his clothes and the blood.

Airon was kneeling, with a hand to his forehead, as a tear pricked the sides of her eyes.

“It’s Alex. I don’t know what’s wrong, but he looks hurt,” she answered as she fought back the tears.

Isabella moved forward with eyes wide, as she continued scanning the sight before her. She shook her head and asked, “Airon, please go and get a bowl with warm water and some cloths.”

“I don’t want to leave him,” she replied with eyes just staring at Alex.

Isabella moved toward Airon and placed a hand on her shoulder and continued, “I know sweetie, but we have to move him and clean his wounds.

Airon gave Alex one last look, stood up, and said, “I’ll get it. You can count on me.”

Daniel forced a smile as Airon walked by him and dashed into the house. He looked around the neighborhood to be sure that nobody was watching. Isabella covered her hand over Daniel’s hand. Her hand glowed lavender.

“How do you feel?”

“I hate doing this. I know the magic you gave me will only last until we take care of Alzerion, but still.”

Isabella nodded. Her husband did not possess his own magic. However, they agreed that at times she would transfer some to him when needed. It usually was when training Airon on using her magic. This was the first time in a while they had to do this.

Then Daniel waved his hand and said, “Up.”

Alzerion’s body slowly levitated off the ground.

Isabella nodded and walked through the front door, first, then Daniel motioned his hands forward and Alzerion’s body slowly levitated through the door and into the hall.

“Watch he doesn’t hit the banister,” Isabella reminded. “Try angling him a bit.”

Daniel moved his hands to the right and Alzerion started rotating. Daniel watched for Isabella’s next instruction and asked, “Is he going to hit the bronze mirror or hall table?”

Isabella quickly glanced to the side and shook her head, “He’s good, but you may want to glide him back toward you. Maybe glide him into the dining room and then you can move him straight into the living room. That way he won’t hit the closet door.”

“Good thinking,” he replied as he waved his hands toward himself. Alzerion’s body slowly floated a couple inches into the dining room.

Then he pressed his hands forward. Isabella walked into the living room as Alzerion’s body made it in nicely and stood at one end of the beige couch.

Daniel followed behind and moved Alzerion to the side and slowly lowered his body onto the couch.

Isabella, who stood by his head, knelt down and just gazed at him for a moment and then said, “Daniel please move the coffee table closer, for when Airon gets the bowl. Also, please check that we closed the front door. I think we may have left it open amidst all the chaos.”

Daniel walked to the table, slid it closer to Isabella and left the room.

Isabella placed her hands at the giant rip on Alzerion’s shirt and saw a gash with blood. She noticed multiple bruises, cuts, scrapes, and a few gashes. As she waited for Airon she couldn’t stop her mind from racing. She grabbed the hand closest to her and gave it a squeeze, fighting back her tears. Then she heard the bang of the front door close. She heard Daniel stroll back into the living room. Isabella held her gaze down at Alzerion. He walked to his wife and gingerly patted her back. After another moment, they heard Airon run down the stairs. She walked into the living room, placed the bowl on the table and knelt down beside Alzerion’s head.

Airon grabbed a cloth and handed it to Isabella. Then she placed the last one on the table. She dipped hers into the bowl and slowly dabbed the cuts on Alex’s forehead. Isabella nodded at her and then set to work cleaning the gash in his side above his ribs.

Daniel grabbed the last cloth and knelt down by Alzerion’s legs. He slid his tattered pants up to his knees and he dabbed at the cuts on his legs.

“Is he going to be alright?” Airon’s voice wavered, briefly, but it broke that silence.

“Oh, dear, I hope so,” replied Isabella with a forced smile.

Isabella glanced at Airon and could see she was a bit teary-eyed. She took a hand and wiped away her tear and then gave her a hug. “He will be alright just you see.”

Airon smiled and continued dabbing at the wounds.

Isabella continued working, too, but couldn’t help the intruding thoughts. Thoughts of better days of seeing Alzerion safe and always helpful. Now to see him at eighteen and unsure if he would live, frightened her. The tears that felt like tiny little drops started to cascade down her cheeks.
