“Sure. After the wedding’s fine.”

And we all took off for the chapel to watch Natalie and Bernard exchange vows, but not before Cody and I exchanged one more scorching-hot kiss.

THERE ARE WEDDINGS and then there are weddings that are so extraordinary, they should be studied.

Once we got the bride and groom to the altar, the wedding itself fell into the latter category. Some minor setbacks could always be expected when you were dealing with Natalie Jennings, but in the end, nothing short of perfection would win out.

Of course, the depth of that setback was a bit more than her norm, but nonetheless, the wedding itself was indeed perfect in every sense of the word.

And why wouldn’t it have been? I planned it and even wrote the vows for the bride and groom. Neither of them seemed to have the time, and neither of them wanted me to admit that I’d written their vows. They each wanted the other to believe those words had come from their hearts.

Instead, their vows came from various country songs I’d loved over the years, and I somehow made them all fit together. Dolly, George, Miranda, Garth, and even Rascal Flatts would be proud.

The incredible music that filled the chapel had been provided by a portion of the San Francisco Symphony. The chapel itself had been decorated by Dragonfly Designs out of Chicago and Cricket, CA. They had restored almost the entire town of Cricket, had been written up in countless magazines, and Natalie had insisted that I hire them, which I did. The officiant, Bernard’s minister uncle, and a noteworthy guest list that included not only Elon Musk, but also Oprah, Marie Forleo, Tony Robbins, his lovely wife, Sage, and Gordon Ramsey who were personal friends of Bernard’s.

So, when we all finally made it over to Dirty Coyote for the reception, and I realized that Dustin and Cody still hadn’t had their talk, I decided that perhaps that talk should never take place. Perhaps Natalie had been right in not wanting to tell her brother about what she and one of his best friends had done. It could potentially ruin their friendship, and in turn, ruin their band. If the Beatles broke up, any band could break up.

Which brought me right back to my sex date with Cody.

What the hell was I thinking? That whole thing could spiral out of control, like dominos falling in a long line that led right back to Wilder and Days.

But getting out of having sex with Cody after all those hot and heavy kisses might not be so easy.

Fortunately, they were leaving in the morning, and I was staying put, which would give me a chance to cool down.

All I had to do was get through the night, and I’d save the band, as well as Natalie’s marriage… Bernard couldn’t know about that teacher-student affair… and everyone could go back to their lives as planned.

“YOU CAN’T TELL him,” I told Dustin as soon as I spotted him walking into the dance hall and heading for the stage area. Their equipment was already set up, but they’d never gotten the chance to do their own sound check, with all that had happened before the wedding. The guys were completely dependent on their backup band who’d apparently been here all day and were just now finishing up.

Part of the massive dance floor had been set up with country-themed tables and chairs for the dinner. The reception was too large for the private side room, so the guests were set up on the dance floor, or behind it, or along the elevated sides. The place looked nothing like it usually did on any given night, I’d made sure of that. The staff I’d hired, along with the regular staff, had done an outstanding job. I’d left the chapel a bit early to make sure everything was up to my standards, and it more than surpassed my criteria. Jess Hall, from Dragonfly Designs, had been outstanding to work with.

“What do you mean?” he said, as we finally caught up with each other in front of the stage. “I’ve already started the conversation.”

“Doesn’t matter. He’s not going to take it well,” I said.

“Maybe not, but you were right. I shouldn’t have kept this from him.”

I took his hand. “We need to talk.”

He followed me backstage, and at once, he got hung up with a couple of his bandmates, telling him technical stuff about the sound and lighting while I waited.

“Sorry about that,” he said when we were finally alone. “Now where were we?”

“Here,” I told him and instead of talking, I kissed him. I don’t know why I kissed him, but I did, and as soon as my lips crushed on his, our bodies responded in ways that shouldn’t be legal.

All I could think of was the teacher student conversation, and I wanted some of that action for my own. Besides, this would cement his not telling Cody anything. Having sex with Cody’s sister was one thing, but having sex with the girl he’d been lusting over, was something else entirely.

He wouldn’t take the chance. Besides, nothing swayed a man in your direction better than hot sex.

Perhaps I needed a few of Dusty’s lessons. After all, if Natalie could learn how to have “mind-blowing” sex, maybe a crash course of my own was needed. And maybe, just maybe, I could find my own HEA if I was better in the bedroom.

Could happen!

All this time, poor sex habit might very well have been what was keeping me from my final destination.

I was so willing to try.

“Let’s hold on here,” Dustin said, pulling away from me for a moment. “This is wrong. You’re Cody’s dream girl. I can’t be doing things with Cody’s dream girl.”
