‘I haven’t slept well since... well, I just haven’t been sleeping.’ Logan’s voice cracked as he broke into a yawn.

‘Maybe take a long lie in the morning? You’re your own boss, you can do that.’

‘Mmm. Not tomorrow. I have to meet Ewen at his club at nine.’

I made a mental note of that little nugget before mimicking his stance, laying on my side facing the camera.

‘You look so pretty, Valentina. You suit white.’

The white babydoll I wore was cute and flouncy, its delicate tulle body floating around my hips when I moved and giving flashes of the matching panties.

‘The colour of innocence...’ I said while winking.

‘We all know that isn’t true.’ His face cracked into a grin that sent a warm wave through me. He always looked so much younger when he smiled. His eyes dipped closed for a moment too long before they opened back up, struggling to focus for a second.

‘Tell me what you’ve been up to since you got home.’

‘I tried baking a baklava yesterday, but something was a bit off. It felt too greasy, but still tasted pretty good. I’ve never tried making one before.’ I kept chatting away, watching as his eyes eventually remained closed, his chest raising gently as he sunk into a much needed sleep.

‘Night, Daddy,’ I whispered, my heart aching to snuggle in beside him again. To feel his warmth as he pressed up against me and nuzzled into my hair.

I paused before closing the chat, typing my number into his box with a note to only take it if he wanted to.

Setting my alarm extra early, I went to sleep with a grin on my face and a plan in my head.

CHAPTER THIRTY SIX

LOGAN

My driver pulled up outside Ewen’s club at nine twenty-five. I detested being late, but after hearing Valentina’s voice, I’d slept like the dead.

I hoped Ewen had made it before me to let the suppliers in.

Storming to the rear entry door, I pulled up short. Valentina sat neatly on the low wall by the door, a short red dress peeking out from under a knee length camel coloured coat. She wore knee high brown boots and a swatch of tanned thigh was visible. An oversized, knitted scarf in a whole gamut of autumnal colours took up her entire neck and chest while her hands gripped a floral cake tin. My insides tightened at the sight of her, all dark hair and rosy cheeks in the cold nip of the morning.

‘What are you doing here?’ I asked her.

‘Stalking you. As a friend, obviously.’

Well, shit.

‘You’re late,’ she said with a pout as she stood up.

‘And you aren’t supposed to be here at all.’

‘I made something for you. I bet you haven’t had breakfast.’ The way she bit at her lower lip had me wanting to bend her over the fucking wall and make her scream.

‘That was kind. But we can’t do this.’

She walked toward me, pushing the flower covered tin into my hands. ‘It’s just some cinnamon buns, Logan. I’m sure that I know you can take some sweet buns.’

Fucking hell. Alfie was right. She was a little demon.

I took the tin as she blinked up at me, her thumb grazing over the back of my hand before she removed her hands from mine. My skin blazed in the small area where she’d touched me.

‘I’ll be needing the tin back. Apartment twenty. I’ve put you on our approved list with my doorman.’

‘You can take it back now--‘
