"Pixie baby?"

I don't answer him; I can't. It's like my voice doesn't want to work. Instead, I stare at my mother's lifeless face, a tube down her throat, her eyes closed, her skin pale, and her chest moving, but not by herself but by the machine because she's no longer here; she's gone with Daddy.

Very slowly, I lift her lifeless hand and kiss it before leaning forward, kissing her head before I rasp the only words I can say, "I love you, momma," before I stand straight again and look at the machine.

Slowly blinking, my eyes staying trained on the off button, I lift my hand and press it, making everyone in the room gasp. I look back at my mother, watching her chest, and it stops moving. Then the machine does an annoying continuous beep, letting us know she's gone—her body, that is, her heart, no longer working.

I feel myself starting to fall before I'm lifted into Jackson's strong arms.

Everybody leaves me.

Everybody dies,

I can't watch this man die on me, either.

I can't.

On that last thought, my eyes close willingly, sleep taking hold as sobs can be heard throughout the room.

Chapter 20

I stand in the doorway of my room at the clubhouse, watching my woman sleep while nearly all the brothers stand just off the hallway in view with worry to see how my girl will wake. Most weren't aware I had a woman; I hadn't wanted people to know, worried they'd scare her off. However, as soon as they had been told by Axel and found out what had happened to her, they instantly rallied around—my brothers, my family.

I look back towards my girl after making eye contact with Dagger. It's been a week since she lost her mother since she switched the machine off herself, and not once has she spoken. The funeral's today, and I honestly don't know how it's going to go.

I hear footsteps to my left and see Clitter walking towards me, wearing a respectable black dress, ready for the wake that the brothers insisted was held here today despite Leah's protests. She gives me a sad smile before passing me a black knee-length dress.

"For your woman,"

She rasps, and I give her a small smile, and she returns it before she turns to look at my girl. A tear leaks out of the corner of her eye, and she wipes it away quickly before walking away again. She's had a soft heart towards my girl since I brought her home from the hospital—the woman who tried to get my patch well and truly gone—in place of the woman she used to be before losing her family.

I turn to look back at Soph. She's turned and is now awake, watching me, and I tilt my head. She's shown no emotion all week; it's like she's been in a comatose state, but as her eyes move to the dress in my hands, her eyes well with tears as a sob is released before she starts to wail,

"NO, NO, NO, NO, NOOO..." over and over.

All of the brother's heads drop, and Clitters' tears fall while I rush into the room, climbing behind her on the bed while Leah runs in with Gunner hot on her heels. She climbs in front of my girl, making Soph grip her best friend, who's put her mourning aside to help my girl through the pain, and we both hold her as Gunner stands near the door where Dad and Dagger have come in as well, all looking concerned.

It doesn't take long until my girl cries herself back to sleep when Dag says, "How in the hell are we going to get her through the funeral?"

I sigh. "I don't know, brother. I really don't fucking know."

I drop my forehead on her shoulder before kissing it lightly.

She's in one of my shirts. It's the only top she's been willing to wear.

Sighing again, I look up and say, "Everyone leave; get ready for the funeral; I'll wake her again and get her sorted. We'll meet you all outside for the hurst." The brothers nod, and I look towards my girl's best friend, who holds her tightly. "You too, Leah." She lets out a sob and shakes her head, making my eyes go soft towards her.

"I promise she'll be OK."

She shakes her head again before Gunner sighs and walks over to us.

He gently picks Leah up as she starts sobbing for her friend, walking out of the room. I hear Cara in the background say, "Gunner, she has legs, baby; let her walk, yeah," and I roll my eyes. We needed the servers today for the wake, and surprise, surprise, the bitch volunteered and even came in with a low-fucking-cut dress made for clubbing, not a fucking wake. Dagger looks out in the hallway from where he's leaning on my black door frame and grins before looking at me. "He's ignored her and gone into his room with Leah still in his arms."

I smile back and nod my head because it's about fucking time.

Dagger walks into my room and kisses my girl on the head. Dad does the same before they both leave, shutting the door. I slowly move her hair from her face before gently kissing her lips, making her stir. Her eyes open and lock instantly with mine before filling with tears again. I lean forward, kissing her again before rubbing my nose against hers.
