He nods, but I can see he doesn't believe me, making me furrow my brows.

Growing up, he was hard on Dag, and I don't think he deserved it, and now Dad keeps trying to push him for a relationship when he's not ready.

I sigh and shake my head. "Stop trying to push him, Dad. He'll come to you when he's ready. Mel's not fucking using him either, so get whatever shit Mom has said to you about her out of your head, especially when they've never fucking met because you know that Dag would rather take a bullet than let her near his woman."

He nods, not taking his eyes off my brother, and I pat his back before getting up. "I'll see you later, dad."

He nods again before leaning back, just watching Dagger while I shake my head and go to my room, ensuring to lock my door, not wanting to be around a bunch of people; instead, I want to sketch something for Sophie because she's all that's on my mind.

We will be together.

I know she felt the spark in our kiss; I just have to keep persevering with her.

Chapter 6

Sophie – present day

I stand in my exam room in shock.

He kissed me, he actually kissed me, and crap, I kissed him back. I lift my finger to my lips, gently tracing them, still feeling the electricity running through them when my phone rings.

I look to see who it is before I answer it.

"He kissed me."

It's all I can say.

I hear a chuckle and then a whoop from someone else.

"And I kissed him back."

More whoops come over the line.

"Well, it's about fucking time; it's been two months of him coming to the vet office with that poor dog."

I shake my head. "Todd..."

He doesn't let me finish. "No, three weeks, Sophie, three weeks, and the bank is mine. Alex and I will get married, and you already have your man by your side. Tell him about our agreement; fucking tell him Sophie, or I will. He's telling you to call him by his given name; remember what I told you."

I clear my throat, and I remember "That only their other halves get to use them."

"Exactly. He sees you for the long-haul, sweetheart, as in old ladies, marriage, and babies kind of long-haul, so fucking go for it."

"I CONCUR."

I hear Alex shout in the background, and I giggle while Todd continues, "I want you standing there right next to me as my best woman while I marrythe love of my life with your man in the audience, picturing it as you and him standing there instead, and maybe just maybe Josh will stop trying to get back with you."

I snorted at that. "Josh doesn't actually want me; he wants a free ride. If he took one look at Jackson, he'd run with his tail between his legs."

He chuckles, "That is true."

and it is; he wants to be a kept man now that his parents cut him off, and he seems to think I'm crazy enough to take him back all because he knows I haven't been with anyone but him. It's making his ego swell in his pea-sized brain. Just last week, he dragged some poor girl to mine and Todd's 'date' to see if it would make me jealous, which it didn't.

He had a scowl all evening while I ignored his existence.

Todd brings me back out of my head: "Just tell him, sweetheart, and I think he'll be happier that you're not fucking me to care about waiting three weeks; I mean, every time he's seen me with you, I swear he's picturing how to kill me with his ink gun."

I laugh before I sigh because he's right, and after that kiss, I don't think I can hold back much longer. The more he's around, the more I feel myself falling for him.
