They had showered and were now lounging by the pool, sipping coffee. Blake breathed in deeply and sighed contentedly. Not only was he impressed with the kill, he was thrilled that he had shared the experience with Eleanor.

A part of him wished that he’d been the one to deal the killing blow, but he knew that he would never have been able to catch such a beast on his own. Plus, Eleanor’s stealth made her the perfect wolf for that assignment.

He loved how her eyes lit up when she talked about the hunt. He’d only ever seen her this animated when they were in bed together.

They still attended pack events together, and went on their morning runs. But the best part was the sex. Undoubtedly. After his hesitation had worn off and she’d convinced him that they could continue seeing each other, they’d explored each other’s bodies extensively.

Weeks had passed and it had started to feel like the most rational thing in the world. Blake constantly found justifications in his mind, reasons why there was nothing wrong with what they were doing.

That was, until this morning. The hunt had distracted him long enough, but now that they were done, and the great elk’s head was waiting in a cooler to be stuffed, there was nowhere else for him to run to.

For the first time since he’d married Eleanor, he was worried and anxious. They were to host a dinner for the elders and some other prominent pack members in his home. It should have been a routine event, but his alpha friends were also invited. Xander was going to be present.

Blake hadn’t seen his best friend in weeks, not since he and Eleanor started being intimate with each other. It was easy to pretend like there was nothing wrong with his actions when he couldn’t see Xander. He didn’t know how well he could hide it when the man was sitting across the room from him.

“You’re thinking about Xander, aren’t you?” Eleanor asked, sitting up.

Blake sat up too and rubbed his forehead. “When we were kids, he hated when I touched his stuff. He thought I was too messy. I started moving his stuff around to piss him off, and to see if he would notice. He always noticed.

“It could be the slightest change in position, but it was always the first thing he noticed when he stepped into his bedroom.” He looked up. “He has a scary way of noticing when something is wrong, Eleanor. So yeah, maybe I’m worried about him finding out.”

She walked over and sat on his lap. “You have nothing to worry about. He won’t notice. Act like nothing is happening, and the day will be over before you notice it.”

Blake didn’t seem convinced, but there was no use arguing with Eleanor. She had guts of steel, and she hardly ever got fazed. He couldn’t blame her. She didn’t know her brother the way Blake knew him.

When people saw Xander, they always thought about his quiet demeanor, but Blake knew that something dangerous lurked underneath the surface. Xander avoided conflicts and kept that thing locked in, but Blake had been around him long enough to see it a few times. And it terrified him.

“Hey,” Eleanor said, repositioning herself so she was sitting astride him. “Trust me, it’s all going to be over soon. Hmm?” She leaned forward and kissed him softly. “Now, we have a few hours before the house is filled with guests. What do you say we make the most of that time?”

She loosened the knot on her bathrobe and undid his as well. She took his hard cock and slipped it slowly into her body, smiling wickedly as she did so. Blake leaned back and in a few seconds, the only thoughts in his mind were of his shaft sliding slowly inside her wetness.

“Mmm…that tastes great,” Blake said, trying out the hundredth sample of the evening. He was filled up already, and dinner was still over two hours away.

Guests had started arriving already, and Eleanor was in charge of making sure they were comfortable, while Blake’s task was to make sure everything was in order. He was extra anxious because while he’d had to put up appearances for months in front of his pack, this was the first time he and Eleanor would have to do so in front of his friends.

The activity was good for him. It distracted him from thinking about Xander, and how he had been flagrantly abusing his best friend’s trust. Every time he heard a car pull into the driveway, he waited patiently to hear Xander’s voice, his anxiety growing by the minute.

He’d been avoiding Xander for weeks. Ducking calls and meetings with flimsy excuses. Xander had never made a fuss about it, and never pressed harder than was necessary.

Blake didn’t think he could face the man, knowing that he’d been sleeping with his sister, and worse, that he’d been enjoying it more than anything in the world. He’d managed to avoid the guilt for so long, but now, he felt it was so obvious that all it would take to see it was one look at his face.

At the time, Eleanor’s proposal that they take advantage of their marriage—and the attraction between them—had made sense to him. Blake knew that deep down, Xander wouldn’t see it that way. He’d always known but had decided to go ahead, anyway.

He wasn’t worried about any of the other guests finding out that they weren’t really married. He’d moved most of his things into the master bedroom where Eleanor lived in case anyone went snooping.

Callahan and the Yeti arrived first, and Blake exchanged quick greetings with them before handing them over to Eleanor. Next were Articus and Rowan, two of his favorites after Xander.

“Nice digs,” Articus said, looking around. “You really should host us more, you know?”

“Any time,” Blake said with a forced smile. “Just say the word. The other guys are out by the pool.” His nerves frayed painfully as he waited for Xander, but he waited long enough to catch up with the boys outside and pretend to enjoy a beer.

Asher came alone, dressed in a suit as black as his eyes. “Out back,” Blake said, stopping only to shake hands with his friend.

The food was ready before Xander arrived. Blake and Eleanor exchanged glances when he stepped into the house, and she gave him a tight nod before rushing off to attend to some other business.

“I’m sorry,” Xander said when Blake came to welcome him. “I had to deal with some urgent business.”
