“NOAH! GET BACK HERE!” I scream as he takes off running. Running towards the number one person on my hit list. A man surrounded with 24-hour security. I watch as one of his bodyguards takes aim and fires a barrage of bullets into his chest. “NOOOO!”

What’s the saying? Hell, hath no furry like a woman scorned. Whoever said it, never met a woman who just lost the love of her life from stupidity. I call on the winds of Hell, raising my arms as the death chant echoes faintly on the tendrils of the wind, until my words are a full-blown roar. In one swipe of my hand, all that had stood before me is lying dead on the ground with my beloved except for one man. The man that I will torture...

“Ava!!”

I feel Noah’s hand on my face, softly tapping me on the cheek and tears spring to my eyes. He’s not dead he’s...

“Wake up ladybug. You’re having a nightmare.”

Ladybug. I hadn’t heard that endearment come from his lips in a lifetime. His pet name for me. He called me it the day we met because a ladybug with one spot landed on him, and he said it was the luckiest day of his life.

I open my eyes and they zero in on his. A look of concern is etched on his brow. Clearly, I was talking in my sleep.

“Sorry. I must have drifted off,” I say as I reach for the power button on my seat and hold it while I ride back up to a sitting position. He moves back to his side of the vehicle, and I realize we are stopped, and darkness has fallen. “Where are we?”

Noah scratches his head. “That’s a good question. Some little hick town in Montana two miles south of the Canadian border,” He pointed out my window to a store. “We needed gas. I thought you might want something to eat before we head off.”

“Yeah.” I reach for my seat belt and unbuckle it. “I could do with something, and Bones will need to take a walk around.”

“He’s already been out. Belly is full too. I bought him a bag of dog food.... I hope you don’t mind but I used your credit card.”

I blinked. “No, I don’t mind but how did you find it?” That was a card that only appeared when I let it.

“It was there in the cup holder... I thought you put it there. You did put it there, didn’t you?”

“Sonofafuckingbitch.” I grab the door handle and shove the door open. Taking a few steps away from the car, I swirl a hand towards the ground and open a portal to Hell. Jumping down, I stalk the halls of Hell right to Satan’s private chambers. Kicking the door in I watch as two women scramble off the bed and run for the hills.

“Tsk tsk my dear, don’t you how to knock?” Satan sat up.

“Why, why did you do it?” I ask as tears spring to my eyes. “I thought that you would honour our deal, you conniving bastard.”

“You know I need one to replace you.” He got off the bed and pulled a robe on over his nakedness. “He was the next best option seeing how he will be learning from the best.”

“Do you want your artifact?” I raised my chin as he stood toe to toe with me. “Because if you do, you will release him of your contract, seeing how you never told him he signed it the second he used that card.”

“You know I need that artifact.” He put one finger on my chin and raised it even further. “And you will... get that artifact for me or else—”

A misty, cozy feeling surrounded me. Comforting me in it’s embrace as a voice echoed out, “You will break that contract, now Satan,”

Satan backed up and looked at the mist as a man materialized out of it. A beautiful Godly figure appeared that had the devil backing up. “I never invited you here.”

“You didn’t need to.” He stepped between us. “If you want Ava to do you’re bidding, youwillbreak that contract... Or I will find a replacement for you. Perhaps Ava would take the job, hmm?” he said, turning to look at me.

I stood there transfixed my mind racing, until God shot me a conspiratory wink. “Yeah... I think I could do a better job than him.”

“No no no. That’s okay. Consider it done. The contract is broken you both can be on your merry way now,” Satan said, ushering me towards the door.

I stopped walking as the ring he always wore, an amulet of protection of all things that could do harm to him, glinted on his finger. Grabbing his hand, I pried it off his finger. “I’ll be taking this with me.” Turning away, I started down the hall back to the portal.

“I need that!” Satan cried. “You can’t take it!”

His words I ignored but I laughed as the words of the almighty echoed behind me. “I do believe she has old chap!”

Jumping through a new portal, I came back to the land of the living to find Noah and Bones, peering into a puddle of melted snow.

“What exactly are you two doing?”
