“Oh yeah?”

“Mhm, this is exactly what I was going to do when you burst in the room.”

“Well, you know what they say about great minds,” Desi laughed, removing the last one. She looked at Abbi. “We need to do this fast. Are you strong enough to keep up?”

Abbi nodded. “I know, they have guns. That’ll teach me to follow a cat into the woods.”

Desi froze at Abbi’s words. “Cat? What kind of cat was it?”

Abbi looked at her and smiled. “That’s an odd way of putting it. It was a Snow Bengal.” As soon as the words were out of Abbi’s mouth, she knew something was not right. “What is it Desi? What’s wrong?”

“Where did they take the cat, I need to know.”

Abbi shook her head. “I don’t know. One of the men took her from me then brought us here.”

“Abbi, that’s my cat.” Desi moved the door aside then grabbed her by the hand. “C’mon, I’ll tell you all about it while we look for Lane.”

Chapter 19

Lane stopped runningwhen he hit a dead end. He was in another section of the barn, where grain was stored at one time. Ducking into one of the cement enclosures he looked around and saw a two by four laying on the ground. Picking it up, he held it like it was a baseball bat and waited. Any minute the guy that was chasing him would walk past and that was when he would attack.

Lane held his breath and listened as they passed by. Judging from the sounds of it, there were now two of them. He stepped out and was in mid swing when he saw that it was Desi and his mom. Dropping his arms, he let the two by four thump to the ground.

The women spun around and saw Lane looking white as a ghost.

Abbi staggered back and grabbed Desi’s shoulder, “Oh my god, he’s been shot!”

“No, he hasn’t,” Desi replied. She knew exactly why he looked the way he did. “He just about knocked our heads off is all.”

“Desi, you found my mom?” He asked as Abbi flung herself at him, giving him the mother of all hugs.

“Accidently but yeah. Now we need to find Nala.”

“How? How did you find her?”

Desi looked at him, really looked at him and saw suspicion in his eyes. No, that didn’t make any sense... or did it? “She was in the first room I went in. Why are we discussing this now?”
