“The mating or the whole Jennifer thing?” he rushed out.

“I’ll think about it.”

“The mating or the whole Jennifer thing?” he repeated with a cocky grin.

“The whole Jennifer thing,” Evie said, grinning.

Parker slowly nodded. “How about the mating?” he asked, a cheeky deep chuckle rolling through his chest.

Evie reached up, wrapped her hand around the back of his neck, and yanked him down towards her. Then she brought her lips to his and kissed him like there was no tomorrow.

CHAPTER THIRTY

~

While his mind was elsewhere, Parker’s wolf slammed against his defences, and a long, deep rumble of a hungry growl rolled through his chest. He wasn’t entirely sure if this meant the mating was back on or if Evie needed to kiss him the same way he needed her.

Parker held onto his inner beast with everything he had. While the wolf was demanding, there was an ache inside of him that was all his own. He wanted his mate more than he wanted to breathe.

Parker ached for her with every kiss, with the scent of her arousal and her naked body against his. But Evie was in control; she said when, not him, and if she wasn’t ready, he’d die inside a little, but he’d wait for her.

When Evie broke from his lips, he felt alone. Even the beast within was cold comfort.

“I think I’ve changed my mind…”

Those words fired his mind, but one word poured cold water on the moment. “Think?”

Evie was silent for the longest moment of his life. “If we wait, it’s just going to be this big ball of energy between us that will grow, fester, and eventually just – pop.”

“That sounds – romantic,” Parker said. He wasn’t sure how to reply. “Sounds like a big – zit.”

“Oh, that’s romantic,” Evie said, chuckling.

“You started it,” Parker said, a deep, low chuckle rolling from him and filling the air. Evie raised her eyebrows at him. “But, I’m not going to argue about it because when a woman gets mad…”

“She gets even,” Evie said with the wickedest smile he’d ever seen.

Parker swallowed hard. “We wouldn’t want that,” he replied, wincing for effect. Evie just stared at him; she didn’t even blink. He was almost grateful when his beast growled and mentally kicked his behind into gear. “Think?” he asked, swallowing again. Suddenly his tongue was dry, but his palms were sticky. Maybe he was coming down with something, but that would be short-lived because his blood would take care of that.

“It’s something that women tend to do before acting, but men don’t.”

Now he was lost. “Huh?”

“Thinking.” She grinned again; it was still wicked but teasing, and he loved how her eyes sparkled with mischief. “We were talking about thinking.”

“Sorry, I was thinking,” he said, offering her a wolfish grin that left little to the imagination of what he’d been thinking about.

“You’re a very bad man…”

“Very bad,” he said, nodding along. “But, I promise to be good.” There was that wolfish smile again, and it had a big dollop of hunger behind it.

It was Evie’s turn to swallow. “I’m gonna keep you to that.”

“You should,” Parker said, his grin growing wider.

“You are so bad…”

“And so good.”
