Hope stalked towards the bar. “Did I hear my name again?” she eyed the cat, and the feline turned and gave her that view of her backside.

“Talk to the butt,” Serendipity said.

Hope turned to Faith. “How fond of that cat are you?”

Faith smiled. “To answer your previous question, I think she has about four lives left.”

“Five,” Serendipity replied.

Faith grinned. “Well, there’s one going spare,” she said, elbowing Hope.

Hope’s lips took on a wicked smile. “Tempting,” she said in a singsong tone.

“I know where you sleep,” Serendipity warned. “Watch yourself; this kitty has claws.”

“Trust me, I know,” Mr Paws called from the hallway.

“Serendipity,” True said with an accusing tone that the cat couldn’t miss.

“He was sleeping on my cushion, play silly games, win silly prizes, feel the claw,” Serendipity replied.

“You’d made it irresistible with the warm deep dip from your oversized backside,” Mr Paws said.

Serendipity shot off the counter like she’d seen a mouse. “Better run; I’m coming for ya!” With a startled meow, Mr Paws took off, and Serendipity followed.

Faith chuckled to herself. “Why does that remind me of Heath wooing True?”

True folded her arms and eyed her sister. “You’re deflecting.”

“Nothing to deflect,” Faith said. “Yes, I want the treasure, and no, it wouldn’t be at the expense of a witch or a friend. If you don’t believe me, that says more about you than me, sister.” Faith turned on her heels and stalked away. “I’m going to help Dani lockdown the kitchen.”

“I’m coming!” Amy said, eager to be away from True’s strange mood.

True waited until they were gone, and just Hope remained. “You buying what she’s selling?”

“Yes.” Hope gave one emphatic nod.

“Why bring Grandpa here?”

“I don’t know,” Hope said. “But, you’re getting cynical with age.”

“Age!” True said.

“An old married woman.” Hope teased her with a smile.

“I will call you a mate…”

“We all know you can’t call me a mate if one isn’t out there,” Hope replied.

“And if one is, I will call your mate…”

“Not out there,” Hope said, grinning. “That’s just witch-ful thinking.”

“We shall see,” True replied.

Hope scowled, all amusement gone. “Don’t you dare!” she hissed.

True allowed a slow, mocking smile to take her lips. “Not out there?”
