“You did that,” Faith hissed over her shoulder.

“Plausible deniability, prove it,” True hissed back.

“Oh, I’ll prove it,” Faith said.

“Well, can we first save a life?” True asked, raising her eyebrows and daring her sister to say no.

Faith bit down on her annoyance. How could she say no to that?

CHAPTER EIGHTEEN

~

“Church bells!” Dani said at the sight of Hope, True and Faith coming through the doorway.

“Not my thing,” Faith said. “I prefer a saxophone.”

“Why am I not surprised?” True said.

“That I prefer good music?” Faith asked, shrugging.

“That you have to be different,” True replied.

Faith folded her arms, raised her eyebrows, and smirked at her sister. “You like church bells?”

True went to open her mouth, but Nana got there first. “Nothing changes between you two,” she said in an accusing and somewhat disappointed tone. “Can we focus on dead people?”

“True loves dead people,” Faith said, smirking.

“Careful you don’t join them,” True said.

“Exactly,” Nana said, and everyone turned to look at her.

“Huh?” Faith asked.

“We must all be careful we don’t join them – one dead – which one?” Nana asked.

“That spoilt my fun,” Faith said. “So the church bells thing, is the bell rung high?”

Dani held out her hands and shrugged. “Sounds logical.”

“Are ghosts logical?” Faith asked.

“They make more sense than you do,” True said.

Nana lifted a frying pan and slammed it down on the counter. “When you two have finished sniping at each other, we have a life to save.”

“But whose life?” Hope asked. “That’s the question.”

“But if we all know it’s coming, we are forewarned to danger,” Dani said. “Right?”

“We all know fate and destiny work in mysterious ways, and the grim reaper likes to get his man,” Nana warned.

“Or woman,” Faith said. “So, the question remains, whose time is up?”

Dani grimaced at the thought. “I don’t like how this conversation is going.”

“Me either,” Hope said. “But we need to have it.”
