“I came to see, I saw, job done,” Evie said.

“Not really,” Parker replied, looking lost. “Although, it might be easier that way.”

Evie looked at Amy, and the other witch shrugged. “Is he for real?” she asked.

“I saw Jennifer leading him in here like a little lost lamb,” Amy said. “Maybe he’s scared of witches.”

Parker scowled, prickled at the thought, and his wolf didn’t like it either; it rumbled a growl and clawed towards the surface. “Scared?” he said and snorted a chuckle.

“Then why else won’t you go in the kitchen and face your mate?” Amy asked.

“Exactly,” Evie said, nodding.

“Because my mate isn’t in the damn kitchen,” Parker replied.

“Huh?” Amy said, the confusion firmly on the other foot now.

“What?” Evie asked.

“She’s standing right in front of me,” Parker said.

Amy and Evie turned to look at each other. Without a word, they took a sideways step, so neither witch stood directly in front of the shifter. “No, she’s not,” Evie said, turning back to him and offering a smile that said he was nuts.

“Yes, you are,” Parker said.

While Evie froze in shock and tried to make her brain work on some level other than screaming words she couldn’t quite understand at her, Amy spat out a relieved chuckle and patted Evie on the back. “Well, good luck with that,” she said, turning on her heels and walking away.

Evie’s hand shot out, gripped a wad of Amy’s shirt, and yanked her backwards. Both witches squeaked a squeal as they collided. “Do not move,” Evie hissed at Amy.

“Let go of my damn shirt,” Amy grumbled.

“If you leave my side, I will kill you,” Evie hissed.

“What do you need me around for? I can’t break his head just for being your mate,” Amy said quietly but firmly.

Parker had got things off his chest, staked his claim, and knew his mate understood where he stood on the matter. He almost breathed a sigh of relief that it was now out there in the universe, and all he needed to do now was woo her – once the shock had worn off – he wasn’t pushy, and his beast could wait.

“Sure you can; it’s whatfriendsdo,” Evie hissed.

Faith walked to the bar with a tray of empty glasses and set it down as she noted the shifter beside her and the strange way Amy and Evie had been acting. “I need service,” she said, and they sprung apart like they’d been caught plotting a murder.

Evie opened her mouth to speak, but Amy got in first. “And she needs help with her mate,” she chuckled as the news hit Faith between the eyeballs and caused her a gasp of disbelief.

“I thought he was Dani’s mate,” Faith said, leaning in and drinking in the gossip.

Amy grinned. “Nope,” she said, chuckling until she felt the not-so-subtle blow from Evie’s elbow in her ribs.

“You don’t gotta be so bloody happy about it,” Evie hissed.

Faith turned to eye Parker long and hard, and he noticed, turning a stare back at her. Then she cocked an eyebrow at him. “You get a ready-made family,” she said, testing the waters.

“The pint-sized witch and I have met,” Parker said, a cocky grin spread across his lips. “I think she liked me.”

“She pitied you like a stray,” Evie said, scowling. “Stay away from my niece.”

Parker looked slightly surprised. “What do you think I’ll do, eat her with some hot sauce?”

“What?” Evie gasped and let loose her magic on him, shooting him off the barstool and onto his back on the floor.
