“We’re staying with Lucas until you get better,” Adam said. He lifted his head and grinned. “Lincoln won’t have the chance to nag you.”

“That—” Nash shook his head. “That’s not necessary. I can take care of myself.”

No, he couldn’t. If Nash was left to his own devices, Lucas already knew his boy would rely on takeout and veg on his couch. He didn’t respond though. He simply watched Nash.

“Seriously, it’s a bad idea.” Nash’s eyes were wide.

“Why?” Lucas asked. If Nash really didn’t want to stay with him then Lucas wouldn’t force the issue. Even in a relationship like the one the three of them had, each one of them had the right to say no.

“Why?” Nash laughed before groaning and clutching his side. “You do not want to be around me twenty-four-seven, trust me.”

“What are you talking about?” he demanded. This wasn’t a no because Nash was uncomfortable. Something else was going on.

Nash looked away but Lucas was having none of that. He caught Nash’s chin.

“Boy, look at me,” Lucas ordered.

Nash's gaze darted back to him.

“We need to have a conversation about what is going on between the three of us. And what it means.”

“I know what it means,” Nash responded quietly. “I always know.”

Adam frowned, lifting his head off Nash’s chest, and Lucas squeezed his shoulder, hoping that Adam understood to let Lucas take care of this.

“We need to discuss our relationship and what it means for all of us. I wanted to talk about it last night but we didn’t have time. I would have preferred a better environment for this conversation, but you had to get yourself thrown off a second story balcony.”

“I’m never boring,” Nash quipped.

“Nash,” Adam said. “Do you want to be with us? I thought…I thought after what happened last night—”

“Of course I do!” Nash said quickly. “This isn’t about what I want.”

“It should be,” Adam replied. “I don’t understand.”

Nash bit his lip as he once again averted his eyes and Lucas could see him starting to shut down. He could let it go and hope Nash talked to them later, but he had a feeling that would make everything ten times worse.

He sat in the chair before pulling Adam onto his knee. He wished he could hold both his boys but that would have to wait. At least, until he got Nash back to his place.

“Tell me what you're scared of,” Lucas requested in a firm voice. Nash reacted to that tone even if he fought it most of the time.

“I’m tired,” Nash said.

“I know, boy, and we’ll let you sleep. We won’t leave your side, so you won’t be alone. But I think you’ll sleep better if you talk to us.” Lucas was positive actually.

“Fine,” Nash snapped. “I’m fun for a night or two. But let’s be honest, I’m not going to be up for much for a few weeks. You and Adam…that makes sense. You are the Daddy that he’s been looking for. There won’t be a place for me once the two of you spend more time together.”

Even though Adam stiffened, and Lucas wanted to reassure his baby, he knew his next words were extremely important, Nash needed to hear him. Adam, his baby, would understand. “There is a place for you with us, Nash. With both of us. You’re the one with experience in poly relationships but that doesn’t mean you know everything.”

“I know what will happen.” Instead of looking at them, Nash played with the edge of the white hospital blanket across his legs. “You’ll get tired of me. I’ll become too much to deal with.”

It was Adam that spoke up. “Bullshit!”

They both stared at Adam. He’d shocked both of them with his language. With the forcefulness of his words. Adam wasn’t a pushover, and he was proving it now. Lucas was so proud.

“You didn’t give up on me even when I tried everything to get rid of you. If I have to fight my demons, then you need to fight your own.” Adam huffed. “You don’t get to back out now after you made me fall for you.”

Nash shrugged. “You’ll have Lucas.”
