“I do,” I said casually.

“How did you know they were there?”

“The FBI has been building a case against you for years. They know about wolves, by the way.”

“So, they told you.”

“I know somebody,” I admitted staring out at the beach with him.

“So what do we do now? Do I shoot your kneecaps until you give them back? Do I go after your family?”

“I wouldn’t recommend it.”

“Why not?”

“Because, right now, the FBI only has one of the ledgers.”

“Which one?” He asked turning to me.

“The cleaned one, of course.”

“And what, you’re going to blackmail me?”

“It’s a move I like to call, ‘The Armand’,” I said with a smile.

He chuckled.

“I don’t take to blackmail as easily as you do.”

“I imagine you wouldn’t. But, I will remind you that right now, you have everything. Don’t do anything stupid and that won’t change.”

“So, you’re still going to marry Eris?”

“Oh, hell no. In fact, you’re done with being involved with my life.”

“So, you think you can treat my daughter like that and get away with it?”

“Why shouldn’t I think that? You do.”

“I’m her father.”

“And her curse.”

Armand laughed. “Maybe.” Armand fell silent. “Did you see what else was in my ledgers?” He asked casually.

“Are you talking about the rawhide?”

“I guess. But it isn’t leather. It’s vampire skin.”

“I see. Pleasant,” I said sarcastically. “What did you write on it?”

“I write it. I found it like that.”

“What?” I asked confused.

“It was during the vampire wars. I was maybe as old as you are now. My wolves and I had found a vampire hiding in a warehouse. There were four of us and one of him so we caught him easily. With him pinned down I was about to remove his head when saw something written on his skin.

“I’m sure I don’t need to tell you how unusual that is. Vampires can’t be tattooed. The only way they can be is if they will the skin under the tattoo not to rejuvenate. So, to keep a tattoo…”
