Staring at me for a moment, he finally asked in a calm voice. “How do you know for sure that it was Camilla that did all of this to you?”
I couldn’t help looking up at him like he had to be the dumbest person on the planet. “Are you for real right now? She's always wanted to be with a man like you. Marry a man like you and have all the power that comes with being with a man like you. Hell, when we were little girls that was her biggest fantasy growing up, to marry a powerful man, have the wedding of the century and be treated like a queen for the rest of her life.”
“But not yours?”
“No. All I've ever wanted was to grow up and find the man of my dreams. Be it rich and powerful, or poor, it never mattered to me what he had financially to offer me because I would only want his heart, to love and protect me for the rest of my life.”
Letting out a heavy breath, he sat back down. “But two men Lillian? Do you realize how that looks? Have you even told your parents about this yet?”
“No. And I don't care how it looks to anyone else, Vitale. When it's love you feel for someone it only matters how it looks to you and them. I can't help that I love them both the same.”
“So what about the merger of our two families?”
I let out a frustrated breath. “Find Camilla and talk some sense into her to leave me alone and then make her your wife. You only have to stay married to her for one year to solidify the merger of our two families.” Looking down at my hands twisting in my lap, I looked back up at tell him. “That's what I was going to do. I was going to only stay married to you for that year and then I was going to divorce you, I even told my father that's what I was going to do; fulfill my duties to my family and then live my life as I chose to, not how they wanted me to.”
“Sounds like your memory is getting better with all you are remembering. But Lillian, I don't want her, and after just listening to you I want you with me more now than ever. I can give you anything you want in this world, definitely my protection and one day even my heart. Just please think about it, you belong in my world, not theirs.”

Now if you will excuse me I need to talk to your father about you knowing it was in fact Camilla who did all of this to you and then find your sister and have her face her punishment for such betrayal to the family.” Kissing me on the forehead, he turned and walked out the door.
