Getting up the nextmorning, after falling asleep on my bed waiting for Vance and Brice, who never came up to my room, I made my way downstairs following the smell of coffee, finding Mack like I did every morning. “Morning, Mack.”
“Well good morning there little lady, how are you feeling this morning? You sleep okay?” He handed me my usual cup of morning Joe.
“I did. Where is Vance and Brice at?”
“They're at the office.” A deep booming voice announced from behind me, causing me to almost spill my coffee all over myself.
“Shit!” I yelped, jerking around to see who had just said that. I was met with nothing but a solid chest. Looking up, and up, I finally found a face attached to the brick wall in front of me. “Don't I know you?”
“Names Bruno. Carter introduced us at the office.”
“Right, Bruno, well Bruno, thanks for starting my morning off by scaring the crap out of me.” I nervously giggled.
“Sorry about that, thought you'd hear me walking in,” He said apologetically.
“It's okay. So, am I to assume Vance and Brice sent you here?”
“Yes ma'am. I'll be here for awhile until this whole thing is sorted out, so if you need anything, just holler. Vance
already put my number in your phone so keep it with you at all times.”
“All right, thank you.” He gave me a nod in response before turning to head back into the living room.
Turning back around, I looked at Mack with what the hell eyes. “Well, now that that’s settled, what are we doing around here today?”
Laughing at my expression, he answered. “I do know of a certain mare that missed you while you were gone and could really use some exercise. I'll grab one of the other horses and ride with you so you're not alone.”
“Sounds good,” Looking over my shoulder in the direction of the big guy and then back at Mack, I asked him in a low voice so only he could hear me. “Do you think we should make Bruno go ridding with us for shits and giggles?”
He chuckled, then grinned at me like a chestier cat. “I don't know that we have a horse that could support his height and weight, but I do know of someone who does.”
“Perfect!” I smiled.
This is going to be too funny.
An hour later Mack and I could barely stay in our saddles from laughing so hard. Poor Bruno, he was so big and uncoordinated on his horse that watching him ride was like watching an episode of Ridiculousness. I'd taken so many pictures and texted them to Vance that I thought he was about to crush my phone with his bare hands if I didn't stop. “Okay, okay, this is the last one I swear.” I promised him, practically gasping for air from laughing so hard.
“You know I didn't sign up for this shit. My ass should be on a 4-wheeler or something, not this beast.” He grumbled as he tried to stay in the saddle.
“Aww come on what fun would that be?" I giggled.
“Well it would be fun for me because you wouldn't be making some photo album out of my unskilled as hell ass right
now.”
“Okay, I said I'll stop.”
“How much longer anyway? This saddle is killing my nu...”
When he didn't finish his sentence, Mack chimed in, knowing what he was going to say. “We're about ten minutes out and you can get some ice for your... uh issue out of the freezer when we get back to the house.”
Knowing what they were talking about, but not wanting to embarrass Bruno more than I already had, I just giggled quietly to myself and didn't say anything more. After we'd gotten back to the barn, Bruno went to ice his balls while Mack took care of the horses. “I think I'm going to go get dinner started.” I told him.
“You know how to cook?”
I shrugged my shoulders. “Well I guess we'll find out like I do everything else. I'm going to just try it and see what happens.”
“Oh Lordy, little lady. Then the fire extinguisher is by the pantry, just in case,” he chuckled.
Faith Mack. gotta have faith.”
“Oh I'll be praying all right. Praying that I don't have to drive into town to pick some take out up later or make a trip to the ER.”
“Ha, ha.” I called over my shoulder as I headed to the house.
