CHAPTER

4

Porter

After she called meout, saying I was a little bitch for not letting her explain things to me all those years ago, I didn't know whether to laugh or be pissed at the comment. So I decide to show her just what this little bitch was capable of doing to her, just like I always had. After we kissed, I squeezed those beautiful tits of hers, I'd missed so much, I watched her as she gave herself over to me without even a moments hesitation. But hearing her talk of her love for this man, Jake, brought me right back to the bitter sting of reality, and I knew I needed to take a moment before I really did start to look like a little bitch.

When I finally collected myself, I came out of the bathroom with my strength firmly in place and waited for the rest of what she had to say. "Please don't be disappointed in me, Porter. If it makes you feel any better, I don't love him the way I loved you. I love him like the brother I always wanted, instead of the jerk I ended up with."

Knowing how her brother had always been a self-centered asshole, I asked her. "Can you just please explain to me what's really going on here, Ker. You're not making any sense with all this."

She let out a heavy breath as her shoulders sagged. "The engagement is a sham, Porter. The reason you haven't seen anything on it yet is because we were going to be making the announcement at a party, my father is supposed to host this weekend, at the Biltmore Hotel."

"It’s a sham?" I frowned. "Is your father forcing you into this?"

Twisting her hands nervously in her lap, her tale tail sign, I knew she was thinking about how to lessen the blow. "Yes and no. He did ask me to do it, but I love Jake, he's one of my best friends."

"Why? What’s really going on here?"

"Jake's last name is Henderson, as in Palmer Henderson, the man my father is backing for a run at the White House."

I still had no clue as to how a fake engagement would help a campaign. "And how does this engagement between you and Jake help his campaign?"

"It hides from the press who his son really is. He's gay, Porter."

"So?"

"So? Do you have any idea how that could affect his father’s run for the White House? It would be a feeding frenzy with the press if they ever found out. They would tear Jake and his father's world apart, and his father would disown him, or worse, if his lifestyle choice were the cause of him losing the race."

I moved to sit next to her on the bed. "How in the world can you live this kind of fucked up life your father has created for you?"

Tears began to gather in her eyes as she looked up at me. "I'm the daughter of a wealthy, and immensely powerful Senator, who only uses me as a tool in his climb up the political ladder. Isn't it great? Who says money and power can't buy happiness?" she said just as she started to laugh and slowly break down, finally letting the front, she'd been trying to hold up since seeing her again, crumble.

Wrapping my arms firmly around her, I kissed the top of her head as I rocked her back and forth. Just like I used to when she got upset. Sitting here with her in this moment, I realized I'd just somehow managed to turn back time two and a half years and I was in love with her all over again. Not that I ever fell out of love with her in the first place.

Shit!

"Everything's going to be okay sweetheart, we'll get through this together. I promise."

She looked up at me with sad eyes. "I have to go back, Porter. My father's doing a press conference tomorrow night about my kidnapping. He will undoubtably just use it to get the sympathy votes for Palmer when we announce my engagement to his son this weekend at the party. Yet again, my life will be used to get my father ahead in the world of politics."

"When do you leave?"

"Tomorrow at seven a.m. I'm on the first flight out. My father had it booked for me already. I'll be home just in time to meet my fiancé at the hospital when he's released ten minutes before the press conference being held there. Could it be anymore perfect?" she said with a teary chuckle.

Even though I knew the most likely answer, I still needed to know. "Am I ever going to see you again?"

Letting out a heavy sigh, she grabbed a hold of my hand and hugged it to her chest. "I don't know. It just depends on how far I have to go with this whole engagement charade. God, seeing you again Porter, it's..."

"It's like no time has passed. Like it’s 2016 all over again." I finished for her.

"It is." Taking my hand, she placed it over her breast. "I need to take a part of you back with me, Porter. I know it's selfish and I have no right to ask, but I need you to love me tonight. Please, just love me like you used to. If only for tonight."

Looking into her eyes, I pulled my hand from her chest and cupped her face, searching, memorizing and staining my mind with her image and smell before I stood up and command her. "Hands on the wall. Legs apart. Show me that you remember how I used to like the way you let me love you."
