“We’ve checked the immediate surrounding area, but there was no way that we could check all of the forests that we have up here,” Mason adds.

“Understandable. Are there still cameras in the incinerator?” Hugo asks.

“Yes, I saw them in there, although whether they’ve been recording or not, I have no idea. We tried to access the old cameras from Demelza’s before we left and couldn’t access them, but he may have left the new ones because they’re on a closed circuit.” Rip tells them.

Dexter nods, “We’ll check them. Hopefully, they’re working, and then we can find out exactly how many people worked for Isabella and see if he really did burn them all or if we need to find any more.”

“Good idea,” Cecil agrees and then looks at Rip, “If you show me where the security room is, I can get on that straight away. We need to know if there are any more bodies or potentially injured people out there and, god forbid, children. I really hope little Harry was the only one, as terrible as that is.”

“Sure,” Rip replies. “We can check her office and grab the staff book. I assume she still keeps a list of all staff members and their families in case she needs to use that information against them.”

“That’s a great idea. Then we can see if Harry has a father somewhere who may be looking for him,” Roberta points out.

“Although, I’d hope that he didn’t come looking for him up here and get caught in the crosshairs, and if he didn’t, then why the hell not?” Gerald says angrily.

“We’ll figure it out. If his father isn’t around or is unfit or dead, then we can find him a place amongst us,” Demelza reassures him, the other grandparents nodding in agreement easily.

The knot in my chest that was caused by worrying about where he’d go and if he’d be safe is eased as soon as I realise that they have a plan and that no matter what, they’re going to make sure that he’s in the best possible place for him. He’s going to be safe.

“We’ll be back as quickly as we can, hopefully with some information about his father and any other staff members,” Cecil says as Ace starts to follow him from the room to help with the surveillance cameras.

“Here dear, why don’t I take him for a second so that you can rest,” Ruth asks me.

I smile, “It’s okay, he’s not very heavy, and I don’t want to risk him waking up, I can’t imagine he’s slept very well, for however long it's been that he was stuck in that cupboard.”

Ruth smiles, “Okay if you're sure.”

“Right; well, since it could be a while before we have any more information, why don’t we get started on cleaning this place up?” Demelza suggests.

“Good idea, although if it’s okay with Ruth and Dexter, I want to stay with them for a bit longer so that we can properly sort this place out I feel like it needs a really good cleanse, after what has happened here recently,” Francis adds, looking at Ruth, who simply smiles and nods in agreement.

“That’s fine with me. I think I’d feel the same if I’m honest,” she replies with a grimace.

“Alright, let’s get cleaning, and working out what needs to be done in order to get you guys moved back in,” my grandmother suggests.

I get the feeling that none of the grandparents do very well at being idle because that’s all the encouragement they need to get going and do the task Demelza has presented them with.

“Why don’t we find somewhere for you to sit so that you don’t end up with cramp in your arms or something,” Mason suggests from one side of me as Mal comes to stand on the other.

“Good idea. Did Rome go with Ace, Rip, and Cecil?” I ask, not seeing him in amongst the grandparents who are in full planning mode, well the women and Hugo seem to be, whereas the others seem just to be standing there waiting for their orders like this is the usual scenario, and they’re all well acquainted with this situation and know the roles that they play.

It makes me smile.

Mase starts to steer me to the left, where we can see a soft-looking couch, and I have to admit that I’d be grateful to sit down at this point; as he guides me, Malachi replies, “Yeah, he wanted to know if there were any staff still here, if there are they’re going to be scared out of their fucking minds, they’ve been living in a horror film.”

Itake Ace, Cecil, and Rome to where my mother’s office used to be. It doesn’t hold the same memories for me that Rome’s father's office did for him. I was rarely in here; she kept this space private, and in all honesty, I never wanted to risk coming in here and walking in on something anyway. I may have been a kid but I still knew that mom shouldn’t be doing things like that with anyone other than dad.

However, I do pause as I open the door and lead the others inside, which prompts Rome to ask, “Are you okay? We can look in here if you need us to?”

I smile, grasping his shoulder in thanks, “I’m okay. I’m just surprised that it hasn’t changed at all in all these years. I mean, I knew that my mom was stuck in her ways, but it’s been what? Ten years since we’ve been back here?”

“Something like that,” Ace replies, and then adds, “Hopefully, that means that she still makes up a list with all the information and that means we can see if anyone is left here, gone home or in the incinerator.”

“We’ll be able to see how many bodies that psychopath put in there on the cameras, which means even though we won’t have pictures of her staff unless she’s updated her system, we’ll at least know if there are any missing,” I reply as I head over to her desk, pulling open the desk drawer and finding the folder exactly where it used to be. “Guess some things really don’t ever change.”

“Great, at least that will make this whole thing a lot easier,” Cecil says, and then asks me, “Where’s the security room?”
