“We should probably head up too,” Rip adds.

“We need to clear up first.” I remind them.

We clear the table and start washing the dishes because, of course, this old house doesn’t have a dishwasher, at least not one that we’ve been able to find. I’m really going to have to talk to Demelza about that if we’re going to be spending any extra time here because I hate washing dishes by hand. Despite my moaning, it doesn’t take very long until we have everything washed and put away, and we’re heading up to bed.

**********

“I know we managed not to go to bed too late last night, but I’m fucking exhausted,” I mutter.

“Yeah, me too,” Mal replies.

"But that’s what coffee is for,” Rome chuckles, placing a giant mug in front of me.

“Thank you,” I reply, gulping down the coffee and then adding, “alright, so the plan is, Ace and Rip go in through the window to get to Daniel, the twins and Malory circle around the back, Rome and I will go through the front, as always, try to disarm and disable without taking down, the staff is reasonably innocent in this. If people start shooting, shoot back, I’m not risking your lives.”

“Got it,” Malory smiles. “I can see why the guys like you.”

My smile widens, “Thank you.”

“Did anyone call the grandparents this morning?” Rip asks.

Ace nods, “Yeah, I did. I couldn’t get through well; actually, I got through, and someone yelled, and I quote, who the fuck calls this early? We’re hungover; take a hike, or I’ll feed you to the dogs next time.”

I raise my eyebrow as I try to contain my laughter, “There are no dogs at Rome’s place.”

“Nope. It was a mildly empty threat,” Ace replies with a smirk, “but before I could say that it was me and that I needed to talk to whichever one of them was mildly okay, he hung up and then didn’t answer the next time I called so I left a message. I’m hoping they get it and are mildly functional before we get there with Daniel. That’s just not going to go well at all. They might shoot on sight.”

“Wouldn’t be a huge loss,” Mason mutters, sharing a look with Mal.

“No, but we do want him to really suffer for everything he’s done,” Mal replies, and Mase nods in agreement.

“Okay, well, at least we’ve done what we can. We have nowhere else that we can hold him, so it’s going to have to be there.” Rome adds.

“Unless it gets a bit more complicated and then we’re going to take longer to get him out anyway and could take him straight to the pickup.” Rip points out.

“True, we’ll just have to take it as it comes,” Rome replies.

“I’m just going to try to get through to them again,” Ace suggests, “we’ve got time, and it’s a bit later now. They might be awake.”

“Good idea, it can’t hurt, and I really would feel better if they were warned and we knew that they got the message,” Mason replies.

Ace pulls out his phone and dials, putting it on speakerphone so that we can all hear. It rings for long enough that I think that no one is going to answer before the familiar sound of my grandmother's voice comes from the other end.

“Hello,” she says.

“Demelza, it’s me, Ace,” he tells her.

“Ace, we got your message. Thank you, and you were right. They would prefer not to be around. I am glad that you called though. I have something that can help keep him easy to handle when you get to him,” she says.

“Meaning?” I ask.

“Meaning, I have something that you can inject him with that will knock him out cold for at least three hours.” She replies, and I can hear the smile in her voice.

“Fucking awesome,” I mutter.

“Thank you, dear,” Demelza replies, and then adds, “is Malory there?”

“Yeah, I’m here,” Malory replies.
