His impish smile made her think of Queen Asta all over again. “As you will, my lady.”

The trip to the queen’s spaceship, the Zikia, happened quicker than Amata could’ve hoped for.

It didn’t take long before two of Raiden’s brothers, Zamush and Michael, teleported in. Zamush froze the hospital personnel while Michael altered the computer system.

Without asking if she should, she followed Raiden back into Claude’s surgical room.

With a flick of a finger, the man froze the medical personnel.

The figures of the doctors and nurses were stuck in a variety of comical poses.

But Amata didn’t find it funny they’d taken him off the ventilators and IVs.

Clearly, they expected Claude’s heart to stop at any moment.

Jerks deserved to look like ridiculous statues. Thank the Goddess she and her allies got there before that happened.

The sound of a machine’s soft whirring outside the room made her peek out the doorway.

Coming toward her at a fast pace was an old Akurn stasis pod on a hover cart being brought in by Raiden’s other brothers, Pete and Ben.

“Where in the world did you get that?” She placed her fingers on her throat as they brought the machine in. She hadn’t seen one of those in centuries.

“It’s the stasis pod that housed our father.” Raiden’s response was calm. “It’ll stabilize Claude until Mother does her examination.”

“Yeah, if anyone can bring him back from the dead, it’s Mom.” Pete winked at her. Deep dimples framed his mischievous smirk.

Her breath caught.

“Damn, Pete. Don’t say he’s dead, you insensitive ass. Way to make her feel better.” Blond Ben admonished his brother. As an empath, Ben must have sensed her spiraling emotions without even trying. Easy enough for him to tell she was freaking out.

Pete shrugged. “She knows I don’t mean anything by it. Let’s get going, ‘k, punkin?”

Without another word, the two of them transferred the comatose Claude into the stasis pod and activated it by closing the front hatch.

The window over Claude’s face showed a soft glowing light around his head, making it clear they’d hooked him up to its stabilizing properties.

“Is the queen meeting us at the Zikia?“ Every moment was precious.

“Yes.” Raiden looked up when Zamush and Michael entered the room. “Everything ready?”

Zamush gave him a brief nod, causing his midnight-black hair to swish across his broad shoulders. When he frowned, the skin across his forehead furrowed under his pronounced widow’s peak. He crossed his arms. “Yes, but the timing must be perfect. When we let everyone go, we have to have enough energy to teleport out of here.”

“Just so.” Raiden directed his question to his auburn-haired brother, Michael. “Did you adjust the computers here yet?”

Michael scratched the side of his bearded jaw. “The swipe was quick, but no worries. I doubt I missed anything. We should be good to go.”

“Amata.” Raiden held out a hand for her. “We’re going to teleport to the abandoned office building where we keep a Transkip mirror. It would be easier if we touched so I can include you in the transference.”

She didn’t hesitate and stood next to Raiden, grasping his sizable hand.

Raiden and his four brothers circled around the stasis pod and closed their eyes.

Amata couldn’t help it. She kept her eyes wide open to see how it worked. What a disappointment.

Between one blink and the next, the hospital room morphed into a large, barren office space. Empty except for the massive mirror attached to a far wall. Without a word, they headed toward it.

The reflection shimmered and changed to an interior Amata suspected was the spaceship, Zikia.
