He stiffened.

A wave of heated lust rolled from him to her. Dammit. Maybe it wasn’t a good idea to push him with her boobs. He wasn’t the only one who experienced a zing of awareness.

“Qhasheik, come and get Jelena.” Zamush’s voice was flat.

That’s how you sound when you’re controlling someone.

BoD’s observation was freaking annoying. Last thing she wanted was to listen to his running commentary.

Qhasheik’s eggplant fingers gripped her arm. “Come on. Let’s give Zamush room to act.” With his forefinger, he pushed the middle of Zamush’s back to give her enough room to escape his makeshift prison.

With barely enough room to move, she stumbled between the stage and Zamush’s tall form. Once freed, she turned to find out who was under his control.

It was Asu. The younger Akurn stood still with wide eyes that never left the direct stare Zamush gave him from a sea of white with pupils of red vertical slits.

The tips of Zamush’s fangs peeked through parted lips.

Her breath quickened as she took a step, but Qhasheik yanked her back with a firm grip.

“Stop it,” he hissed in her ear. “Control yourself. This one isn’t for you.”

She blinked away the dizziness. Seeing Zamush like that triggered the hunger inside her. Good thing Qhasheik stopped her. She patted him and murmured so only he could hear. “Thanks. I’m okay now.”

“Are you sure?”

She didn’t trust her voice, so she nodded. What would Sychar think of her if he saw her going into bloodlust? A chilling shiver ran down her back. The last thing she wanted was to have him aim a look of disgust at her.

“Asu, what have you done?”

It was Sychar who spoke. He’d come down from the stage and faced the young Akurn.

Oh my Goddess, he was within reach. Closing her eyes, she took in a deep breath to savor his scent for the first time. The only thing she caught was Zamush’s strong masculine aroma. She couldn’t sense anyone else.

Is that Asu?

BoD’s blue glow shone higher out of the corner of her eye.

He’s the traitor?

“You are to answer any question Sychar asks of you.” Zamush gave the command.

“Sychar is a traitor to the people of Akurn. Murduk is the firstborn son of King Du-Uru, and he alone has the right to rule.” Asu’s tone was a monotone. He never took his eyes away from Zamush.

“If I prove Murduk is not the king’s son, where would your allegiance be?” Sychar asked in a raspy tone.

“My allegiance has always been to the people of Akurn.”

Abiditan joined the little group. “If he’s sincere, he might be someone we can use.”

“Agreed.” Zamush growled. “If you’ll excuse me, I’ll find out everything he knows.” He wrapped his arms around the unmoving Akurn. They vanished.

Jeez, she’d give anything to teleport like that.

“Where’d they go?” Sychar waved his hand through the space where Zamush and Asu had been.

“Don’t worry, he’ll catch up with us later.” Qhasheik chuckled. “And will have more than enough information for us.”

Warad-Mushtal put a comforting arm around the WOTA leader and led him away. “In the meantime, let’s get you to the med-room and back into the healing pod.”
