At Abiditan’s skeptical scowl, his grin widened.

Instead of answering, he teleported out of the room. Since he hadn’t been to most of the rooms in the estate, he popped into the drawing room where they were the night before. He focused on a small statue of Kusarikku, an ancient Sumerian demon with the arms, torso, and head of a human, with the ears, horns, and the ass of a cow.

Picking it up, Zamush whistled. The damn thing weighed a ton. Must be made of solid gold. Abiditan and his brother shouldn’t have any trouble realizing where he got it.

With hardly a thought, Zamush imagined himself back in the conference room, standing next to Warad-Mushtal’s chair.

The man jerked. His head whipped with eyes wide and examined him with an up-and-down motion. “How-you...”

Zamush put the heavy twelve-inch statue on the table. “Just to prove I can.”

“Hey! That’s from my drawing room.” Warad-Mushtal’s Adam’s apple bobbed as he swallowed. His hand shook as he grasped the figurine.

The room was silent as Zamush made his way back to his chair.

“Show-off.” Jelena muttered under her breath.

“Say the word, and I’ll show you how to do it. Privately.” He glanced around the table to make sure no one heard. It stood to reason since she was so much like him, there were things she could do she wasn’t aware of. Looked like he didn’t have to worry anyone overheard.

Excited conversations resumed.

“Why can’t you just pop in and rescue him now?” Sabum sprang from his chair, his hands fisting as if holding back from coming over and forcing Zamush to do what he demanded.

Zamush’s eyebrows furrowed. “Don’t you think I would if I could?” He bit back a growl. “Teleporting is an exact science. I have to be either very familiar with both areas or I have to be extremely close before I teleport from one place to another. If I try to move to an unknown location, I risk ending up part of a wall. Or worse, merging into someone.” His left eyebrow rose. “Would you like it if I materialized into your body? I assure you, I’d survive but you wouldn’t.”

“How close is close, bro?” Qhasheik raised a finger, as well as the tone of his voice to be heard over the excited voices around them. The room quieted.

If the man knew him better, he wouldn’t have to shout to be heard.

After a quick look at the schematics, Zamush analyzed the area. “Right outside his cell door.” He might do it from farther away, but why take the chance?

“We can do that.” Qhasheik nodded and rested his chin on a closed fist with an evil grin.

“What do you mean ‘we can do that’?” Katsuki grabbed Qhasheik’s forearm. “What stupid idea are you cooking up now?”

“Ah, my precious myressei,” He crooned and rubbed her grip. “My ideas are never stupid.”

Katsuki’s glowing turquoise eyes narrowed. “Maybe. But they’re usually dangerous.” She grasped his fingers in hers. “I swear, sometimes you have a death wish.”

Qhasheik brought her hands to his lips and gave her knuckles a quick kiss. “I would do nothing to jeopardize what we have, my love.” He winked and pulled her chair close and kept their hands together.

“So, what do you have in mind?” Abiditan tapped a forefinger on the table.

“Simple.” The Ibbin shrugged his shoulders. “All we need is a diversion.” The black horizontal slit in his red eyes expanded as he addressed Warad-Mushtal. “Didn’t you say that the priestesses from the temple are also at that prison?”

A curt nod. “Yes, we believe so.”

“Why don’t we make it look like the rescue attempt is for them and not Sychar?” Qhasheik slapped his free palm on the table. “Hell, son! Why don’t we just free the whole friggin’ prison while we’re at it? That be enough diversion for ya?” His wide grin at Zamush was catching.

“Absolutely.” Zamush acknowledged with a nod and a smirk of his own.

~Jelena~

“Do you think this crazy plan will work?”

Mentally exhausted, Jelena flopped next to BoD on the bed in her assigned room and spoke out loud. While in the planning session, she stayed connected to him, so she didn’t have to repeat everything.

Shther opened one eye, closed it, and continued to snore on one of her pillows.
