Wes dragged his chair over. “Think you’ll dive this trip?”

I scratched under my ear. I’d done the certification course at Christmas with the rest of the group. I liked it. But I wasn’t as gung-ho as Wes. Obviously. Since he was in the process of starting his own dive shop. “I don’t know. I guess I’ll see what Kayla wants to do.”

Wes shook his head. “You’re sunk already, aren’t you?”

I shrugged. He said it like it was a bad thing. I didn’t agree. If I was sunk, I was happy there. “How are your classes going?”

“They’re okay, I guess. I remember why I didn’t take business classes in college, though. And I don’t care what you say about math, accounting is evil.”

I chuckled. “I never enjoyed accounting, either, if I’m honest. There are all kinds of math. You’re not going to keep your own books?”

“I was thinking about it. Now? No. I’m hunting around for someone to handle it for me. But I still think I should know enough to be sure it’s right, you know? And I have to do the day-to-day stuff like entering sales, ordering equipment. It’s not like I can get away from it completely. But I’ll want someone to come in and go over everything and handle payroll.” Wes blew out a breath. “I didn’t think it’d be this complicated, honestly.”

I nodded. “That sounds like me and this learning center. It’s all well and good to think ‘oh hey, I want to do this thing’ and it’s a whole other mess to see what the actual steps are to follow through.”

“You said it. Still. I think it’ll be worth it.” Wes drummed his fingers on his knee a moment. “Do you think I’m crazy?”

“For the dive shop?”

“Yeah.”

Did I? “Not really. It’s not something I’d want to do, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t. It’s kind of like Megan and the bookstore. Retail anything has never been my dream, but I’m glad there are people who want to do it.”

Wes snickered. “Makes sense. And I totally forgot Megan was doing the bookstore. I bet she has an accountant she can recommend. Maybe some payroll tips, if it comes to that.”

“Pretty sure she just uses a program that does it all for her. Grandma might have had an accountant set it up for her initially, but at this point, I think it’s all Megan.” I glanced over where the ladies were still chatting. They’d scooted closer together and were laughing at something Whitney was saying. “I bet you can find time to talk to her about it on the trip.”

“Yeah, maybe. Or I’ll make a point of it when we’re back. How is she taking a week off?”

“She has some part-time people she trusts who were willing to take the hours. But I think she’s planning on heading home on Wednesday.”

Wes frowned.

“You can always close up on vacation days, if that’s what you’re worried about.”

“Nah. I’m going to need employees. Obviously. I can’t do it all on my own.” He sighed. “Maybe this is dumb.”

“Don’t be like that. Give it some time and see it through. You prayed about this, right? You feel like it’s something God’s good with you doing?”

Wes nodded.

“Then keep praying and take the steps.” I bit my lip. It was good advice that I needed to take for myself. I was getting more and more stressed with the learning center. And now I was thinking of adding the scholarship fund—pretty sure I was going to add it, if I was honest. It definitely was in line with the way I felt called to use my money.

“They’re ready for us to board.” Scott stood, shifting Beckett to his hip.

I collected my bags and fell into step beside Kayla. “Ready to go?”

“Oh, yeah. Everything okay with Trevor?”

“Yep. He got into the MIT summer program. I told him I’d cover the cost if he didn’t get a scholarship.”

Kayla stopped and looked at me before leaning in and pressing her lips to mine. “I love you.”

I didn’t think I’d ever get over how those words made me feel inside—all warm and tingly. “I love you, too.”

I followed her down the small jetway to the plane, more than ready to start a week of relaxation away from everything with the woman of my dreams.
