“Gin it is. I’ll be right back.” I pushed back my chair.

“Can’t we just signal to the bartender? It isn’t like he’s busy with other customers.” She snapped her fingers at Kane. “Yoo-hoo! Over here, please.”

Kane shot me a dark look. Surprise, surprise. The prince of hell didn’t enjoy being ordered around.

I could practically feel Kane’s animosity from across the room. “I think he might have a hearing problem. I’ll get them.” I hurried to the counter. “Sorry about that.”

“Are you? I get the impression you’re rather enjoying it.”

“She’d like a Hell on Wheels with gin, and I’d like a Devil May Care on the rocks.”

“With salt?” he asked.

I gave him a prim look. “Make mine extra salty.”

Kane kept his expression neutral. “That tracks. Do you think she suspects something?”

“Too soon to tell. She likes the club, though. Mess up her drink so she doesn’t decide to linger.”

Kane scowled. “I have too much integrity.”

“You’re a demon from hell. How much integrity could you possibly have?”

“I refuse to dignify that with a response.” He mixed the ingredients for a Hell on Wheels. Flawlessly. Bastard.

“Is there anything you can’t do?” The words slipped out, and I immediately regretted them.

Sure enough, Prince Perfect flashed a set of pearly whites he’d probably stolen from one of his torture victims. “Miss Clay, you flatter me.”

“It was an accident. It won’t happen again.”

His gaze skated to Naomi Smith. “I think you may be worried for nothing. She doesn’t seem very dangerous.”

“What are you basing that on? Her custom suit?”

“Her haircut.”

I frowned. “Are you serious?”

“It’s not the kind of hairstyle a fighter wears.”

“Just because she can’t beat us up doesn’t mean she isn’t dangerous. One wrong word to her bosses and this town will be crawling with unwanted visitors.” The kind that could cause permanent damage.

Kane slid two glasses across the counter to me. “I could slip a memory powder into her drink. Make her forget why she’s here.”

“Is that something you typically do?”

“Of course not, but desperate times…”

I mulled it over. “I think we’ll just end up with another representative from The Corporation. Our best bet is to tell her enough that she goes away, and no one feels the need to come back.”

He glanced over my shoulder. “I could seduce her, then break her heart. She won’t want to be within ten miles of here ever again.”

“I like my plan better.”

He clasped his hands over his heart. “Because mine would make you jealous?”

“Because mine is more efficient.” I swiped the glasses from the counter and returned to the table.
