He eyed her funny like. She wasn’t sure the reason. “They are good people,” he said.

“I just texted Royce. He’ll get back to me. Maybe I can just shut the water off so he doesn’t need to come over and then put a sign up that it’s out of order.”

When her phone went off again with a text suggesting that, Royce told her where to look for the valve.

She bent down and opened the cabinet door.

“Does he want you to turn it off?” Trent asked.

“Yes.”

She found it and tried to turn it, but it wouldn’t move.

She was pretty sure she was grunting and he moved her out of the way. “I’ve got it,” he said.

Once the valve was shut, she turned the faucet on and nothing came out. “Thanks,” she said. “I’ll just put a sign on this and they will fix it tomorrow.”

“Guess it was a good thing I’ve got no life,” he said.

“Same here.” She thought he would go back to his office, but he followed her to hers. “Is there something else I can help you with?”

“No,” he said. “Just that I want to make sure there are no other men in there when you go back.”

If he wasn’t so serious she would have started to laugh. “I’m sure I’ll be fine, but thanks for the company.”

She grabbed a piece of paper in her office, wrote “out of order” on it, then locked the door and walked back to the bathroom, where she taped it on.

“It was nice to meet you,” Trent said.

“You too,” she said. “And if you’re looking for clients, a small real estate company is coming into the building next month. They might be a good place to get the word out for you.”

“Thanks,” he said. “I appreciate that.”

“Have a great day, Trent.”

“You too.”

She went back to her office and wondered why her mind was racing with other people she could refer to Trent. Normally she minded her own business in life, but here, she was trying to promote a community in this building.

And that thought gave her another idea and she started to make notes of building emails and newsletters that she could start to circulate. She’d pass it by her bosses first, but she was pretty positive they’d be on board.

It was a productive day, all things considered.

Squishy Little Heart

“Two weeks,” Janine said. “We’ve been officially open not even two full weeks and we’ve gotten ten clients alone from this building.”

“What?” Trent asked when he walked into the reception area.

“That call you just took. The wrongful termination one? Are you taking the case?”

“Yes,” he said.

“Then that is eleven we’ve gotten from this building. And the meeting you’ve got tomorrow for the malpractice lawsuit, will be twelve.”

“All from this building?” he asked. “How do you know for certain?”
