She gave Trent a hug and a kiss. “I’m going to remember you said that.”

“You’ve got witnesses,” Carolyn said, laughing as the two women walked out the door and Roni got to hold onto her boyfriend for a few minutes longer. And it felt damn good.

“Oh my God,”Diane said when she was in Carolyn’s car. “We did it. I can’t wait to tell Grant that he isn’t the only one.”

“You can rub your husband’s face in this like he does with you and how he helped Flynn before.”

Her husband had been there when Flynn needed a father figure in his life to give some advice. And then hadn’t let anyone forget that he helped out in more than one way to get Flynn and Julia on track.

“You know I’m going to do it. Starting now. I’m putting them on speakerphone too.”

She pulled her phone out and called her husband. “How did it go with Roni?” Grant asked.

“Go get your brother. Then I can fill you in together. We are in Carolyn’s car.”

She heard her husband get up and move out of his office. “I’m here,” Garrett said. “What’s going on?”

“Carolyn and I did it. We fixed their relationship.”

“What was there to fix?” Grant asked.

“They were fighting,” she said. Then she told them what had happened and how she and her sister-in-law saved the day. “So score one for us.”

“Damn,” Garrett said. “Good job there.”

“Thank you, dear,” Carolyn said. “It wasn’t even planned. We are good on the fly.”

“If you were so good,” Grant said, “then you’d be able to come up with something to help with Elise and Gabe.”

“Sorry, guys,” she said. “This is still on you. We’ll take our win for now.”

She hung up the phone, laughing. “You know we are going to end up helping them, right?” Carolyn said.

“Sure, but not today. Man, that was exhausting.”

“But so rewarding!”

Epilogue

Three Months Later

“Doyou think she’s going to be okay with this?” Grant asked Trent three months later.

Grant and Garrett just came in. They’d been downstairs talking to Roni, making some excuse to be in the building.

“She’s going to love it,” Carolyn said.

Diane and Carolyn came in the back entrance so Roni had no idea they were there.

“I agree,” Janine said. “I can’t believe I’m going to witness this.”

“I feel like I’m out of the loop,” Nancy said.

His new accountant was older and kept to herself, but she was doing a great job and got along well with Janine.

It was horrible to think, but he was glad it wasn’t some single lady that the Fierces would think they could set up and be in his office nonstop with.
