Eli should have had his helmet on and since he’d seen the kid put it on without being asked numerous times, he didn’t believe that he’d take it off as Jeff had said.

“Jesus,” Jax said. “What an asshole Jeff is. Roni told me everything she could in a text and how you guys ended up there.”

“Yep, not fun,” he said.

“Are you going to help her nail his ass to the wall over this?” Jax asked.

“I’m going to try,” he said. “I’m looking into things right now. It’s not like I can do much more while I wait.”

“Keep me posted. You’ve got my number now.”

“I will,” he said and hung up.

“Looking into what?” Jenna asked.

He turned and glanced at her. He wished she’d get up and move, but she didn’t.

“Excuse me?” he asked.

“I could hear that guy on the other end a little. What are you looking into? Why can’t Roni just leave Jeff alone? You’d think she’d get sick of spending money on an attorney.”

“Yeah, you’d think that, wouldn’t you?” he said.

He went back to his phone. “What do you do?” Jenna asked.

“What?” he asked.

“I asked what you do? For a living. If you’re dating Roni and I’m going to move in with Jeff soon, we should all try to get along. Maybe I can get you to see reason to talk to Roni and have her drop all this crap.”

He’d had enough. “I own my own law practice,” he said calmly.

That shut her up for about five minutes. “This was just an accident. Nothing more. Kids are kids and things happen.”

“Hmm,” he said and got up to make a call outside the waiting room.

When he returned, Roni was in the waiting room looking for him.

“There you are,” she said.

“Sorry. I had to make a call. Any updates?”

“They said his forearm is broken. It’s a clean break. He won’t need surgery. He doesn’t have a concussion, but he’s got a bump on his head. I’ve got to make an appointment for him to see an orthopedist for a cast on Monday. They are going to put a splint on him for now. He’ll need a follow-up with his pediatrician this week too.”

“I can’t bring him for the cast on Monday,” Jeff said. “I’ve got to go out of town for a meeting.”

“I’ll do it,” Roni said. “I’ll make the call once they give me a name. I’ve got to call Dr. Grey anyway.”

“I can bring him,” Jenna said. “It’s Jeff’s day anyway on Monday even if Eli isn’t in school.”

“No,” Trent said. “You aren’t his legal guardian.”

“Trent,” Roni said, putting her hand on his arm. “I’ve got this.”

“Jenna is right, it’s my day. My parents can bring him.”

“No,” Roni said. “There is no reason for it. I can bring him and he might not get in on Monday anyway. Tuesday is my day and I’d go with you regardless to hear what the doctor said. Just like I’ll tell you everything the doctor says too for when you’ve got Eli.”

Jeff held her stare and then nodded. “Whatever. I want to know everything. Maybe Jenna can meet you there.”
