“You know all the Fierces,” she said. “And your siblings and their spouses are there too.”

“Soon-to-be spouse in Jonah’s case,” he said.

“Same thing. And he was here last year for the party too. Cody also.”

“Cody and Raina met at this party years ago,” he said.

“Really?” she asked. “I don’t think I heard that. I just know that they were set up.”

“I think back then they didn’t know who they wanted to set Cody up with and then noticed him talking with Raina and decided that was it. Like it was right in front of their face and they hadn’t realized it.”

“They tell themselves those things all the time,” she said. “I’ve been hearing more and more now from Megan.”

“Well,” he said. “Megan does have the scoop on everyone.”

“And after tonight everyone will know about us,” she said.

“Are you worried about that for some reason?” He stopped from where he was putting his shoes on and looked at her.

She loved seeing him in a suit and was surprised by that, but tonight he had on nice pants, shoes and a button-down shirt. Nothing fancy like he’d have on in the office or in court.

She wasn’t dressing up much either. Dark gray pants, a white shirt with red trim that had some sparkle around the neck and cuffs and a pair of black pumps.

“No,” she said. “I was told a lot of people will come over and laugh about it and say it was a good one to pull over on the Fierces.”

“There is that,” he said. “Are you ready? Do you want to call Eli before we go?”

“I talked to him earlier today. He’s at his cousin’s for the night. I guess Jeff and Jenna are going out to eat and then to a party too.”

“Does that bother you?” he asked. “Would you have gone to this party if you had Eli tonight?”

She’d thought of this, and though in the past she’d use that excuse not to go, this year she wouldn’t have. “I would have come. My parents would have watched Eli for the night. I wouldn’t miss this.”

“Good,” he said. “Time to go put on our show.”

She laughed and they left together, him driving to the building her employers worked in. There were a lot of cars there and she knew Cody and Raina would be there already.

Megan and Jonah met them in the parking lot. “Oh good,” Megan said. “We can walk in with you. This is going to be fun. I can’t wait to see their faces.”

“With you walking in with us, they might not think we are a couple,” Trent said. “They could think I know you guys and the same with Roni.”

“I doubt it,” she said.

“I agree with Roni,” Megan said. “There will be a lot more people here this year, but I doubt all of them are staying the whole night.”

“That’s right,” she said. “Grant told me that all the tenants were invited.”

“All of them,” he said. “I thought it was just the owners of those renting.”

“Yes,” she said. “But that’s still a lot more people. Just those that signed the leases. Plus all the Fierce employees in this building and those that are working with them on the building.”

“Which is more than it’s been in years,” Megan said.

“Not all of Grant and Garrett’s kids come, right?” she asked.

“No,” Megan said. “Even less though because of Flynn’s wedding tomorrow. I think once the rehearsal is done they are going home. At least I heard Grant saying that the other week.”

Roni didn’t know who Flynn and Julia were personally, but she’d heard the story and that those two met at a New Year’s Eve party two years ago too. One at Sam’s house.
