“A little,” I confess, tucking hair behind my ear.

My thoughts immediately go back to the party last week. Did I do something else wrong? Is she calling to tell me to forget the part? I rack my brain, but the only potential issue I can come up with is the showdown with Tucker, and she was already aware of that.

Don’t be stupid. She’d have called you last weekend.

“My boss and I met with Cole yesterday to finalize casting choices.”

Dread settles in my stomach, fighting with the flicker of hope.

This is it.

I swallow the nerves, my fingers twisting in the blankets.

“Okay.”

“I hope you have your passport already, Mia. We leave for location next week.”

“Passport?”

“We’ll be shooting in Ireland for the next three months.”

“Ireland?” Suddenly the rest of what she’s saying catches up with me. “Wait, I got it? I got the part? I’m Catherine?”

My voice gets louder with each question until Garrett stirs next to me.

Fiona laughs.

“You did. Congratulations, Mia. I’m excited to work with you.”

“Oh my gosh. Thank you. Thank you so much.” Emotion clogs my throat, and I blink at the happy tears that gather along my lashes.

“You’re welcome. I’ll email your agent all the paperwork and your assistant the details.”

“Wait. Um, I’m no longer with my original agent.” Firing Roni had been hard, but it was more than time.

“Oh, okay.” She sounds hesitant. How many times do producers have to do that? Focus. “Do you have someone you’d like to have look over the contract?”

My gaze flicks to Garrett, who stares up at me, hazel eyes brimming with curiosity.

“I do, actually. Would you mind emailing it directly to me?”

Garrett will know what to look for and give me his opinion. He may not be an actor, but I know he’s familiar with contracts.

“You’ll have it shortly,” she tells me. “And I hope that you and Tucker can put your personal feelings aside while we’re filming.”

“I’m sorry?” Dread tightens my stomach. I had to have heard her wrong.

But I know I didn’t.

Tucker auditioned for it.

Can I work with him after everything that’s happened?

Would you really give up this role simply because you have to work with him? I nibble on my lip, not sure about the answer to that question.

“I—I thought you knew.”

“No, I…”
