“Yes, everything.”

“H...how did he take it?”

“Not well, to begin with. And that hurt. A lot. But then again, he had no idea that I'd gone through such a horrible experience. Now he does, and he seems determined to make sure I never feel like that again.”

“I think we should meet him.”

“Not yet.”

Allee reassured her mother for several more minutes before ringing off. She decided to refill her coffee before calling Cass, as she knew that she'd get a grilling from her, but almost jumped out of her skin when the phone shrilled unexpectedly in her hand.

“Hello?”

“Allee, I thought you were going to call me so we could swap stories! What happened?”

Allee chuckled quietly to herself at the impatience of her friend.

“Charlie, I was going to phone you later, I promise. I just wasn’t expecting your call!”

“Who else would it be? Although, I can think of one person in particular, if it was him, you wouldn't be wishing it was me, ha-ha!”

Allee couldn't help but smile at the banter between them.

“Yeah, if it had been Noah, I definitely wouldn't have told him to get off the phone, so I could call you!”

“What's up then? How did the weekend go? I don't want juicy details because I have to work with you both, but some would be nice.”

Allee continued to make her coffee, regaling Charlie with an acceptable recount, such as Noah's house and the renovations he'd done, the fact that Noah could cook, the treat of breakfast in bed, and visiting his parents.

“Wow, so you met the olds! How did it go?”

“They were really nice. I think they were surprised when we arrived on their doorstep with no notice, but they didn't make me feel like a stranger or anything. In fact, they were really welcoming and interested in me. I also think they were sizing me up and comparing me to Michelle, Noah's ex.”

“Yeah, that bitch did a real number on him. I remember when it happened, he came into work and was a machine. He barely went home, just focussed on his work. We got so worried that Craig forced him to take leave, to go get his head sorted out. Apparently, that's when he started on the reno's. Smashing shit up and tearing things out apparently does wonders for anger and frustration.”

“Well, I think I passed muster. They certainly didn't take me out back and warn me off. In fact, they told me I was welcome any time and would I like to come out for dinner one night.”

“That's pretty sweet, Mrs Bligh does a fantastic pavlova, and Mr Bligh can do a great pig spit as well. There's been a few occasions where we've gone to their place for a bonfire night, and they put on a massive spread for us. I think they're glad he didn't move too far away, unlike his sisters, so they are only too happy to have him include them in his life.”

“Yeah, they come across as really lovely and genuine. But enough about Noah's parents, I want to hear about you and Andre! How did the drinks go?”

Allee listened happily as Charlie relayed her date with Andre. Drinks had become dinner, and dinner had turned into a movie back at Charlie's place, with beer and popcorn. The alcohol had meant that Andre couldn't drive home, so he'd crashed on Charlie's futon, and they'd then gone out for lunch again on Sunday. Charlie seemed to be quite pleased with how things were progressing, and she and Andre had agreed on another date the following Saturday. They were going to see a movie, although which one had yet to be decided. Once the call ended, Allee immediately rang Cass, wanting to catch up before she got too tired.

“Allee! Hey hun, how are you? I haven't heard from you in a while, and if it hadn't been for those way-too-short but sweet emails, I'd have called the cops! So, what's up?”

Allee grinned, happy to hear the enthusiasm in Cass' voice over the line, missing their closeness. She gave Cass the same summary as she’d given her mother, pulling the phone away from her ear so that Cass' squeal of delight didn't deafen her.

“Oh shit, you have got to give me all of the dirty details! How was it? How was he? Did he make you cum? When are you going to jump his bones again?”

Allee laughed, her heart warming from the sheer delight her friend was having on her behalf.

“It was amazing, he is amazing, yes he did, and I don't know.”

“You can't just leave me hanging like that. I want to know it all!”

“Cass, you're my best friend, and I love you...but I am not telling you all the dirty details because one day you just might meet him, and I don't want you picturing that whenever you look at him!”

Cass laughed and went for a different line of questioning.
