Liquor glasses were tossed in the air, flowers showered down from above, wafting away the incense as my crew released their fluttering petals. The strings picked up a jaunty tune.

“Tonight, we feast!” My father bellowed and gestured toward the exit. Tables had been set in the mess hall for the festivities. I rolled my eyes at Jasmine but squeezed her hand.

My father just always had to have the last word, but, in a way, I could choose to believe in it as his blessing on this marriage that he had designed as a punishment and power play.

The crowd thundered toward the food as my crew passed out more liquor-filled chalices. Jasmine and I were swept away in the flood to head to the bride and groom table in the other area of my beloved ship.

But I didn’t let go of her hand.

I didn’t want to ever let go of her hand.

Especially since still lurking in my mind was the thought that that exquisite hand might be intending to hold a blaster sometime soon.

But as she glanced sideways at me with the beautiful smile perpetually playing on her lips, I knew if she had secrets, she would share them with me.

Just as I would share mine with hers.

From now forward, we would be eternally together.

I’d make a mockery of my father’s game. This was my bride, my partner, and perhaps whatever her secrets were, they would just help me find a way to reach all my goals.

Like a true partner would.

Jasmine

The door to my chambers had barely whooshed closed before Braxl picked me up and rushed me to the bed. The sheets were still disturbed from our previous engagement, and the toxin was still barely buzzing in my brain as he lowered himself on top of me.

I was panting, not just from the sprint we’d just finished, zooming through the GloryDaze’s hallways, hand in hand. Braxl was beside me, grinning from ear to ear, teasing me about being his forever.

Was it the lingering toxin from our adventure, or was I genuinely feeling a sweet, affectionate rush for him?

No one at the reception had caught on to our little escape from the feast. We weren’t the celebration’s main event; we were just the catalyst for the Krafina to kick the party into high gear.

Don’t forget, you’re about to rain on their parade.

I pushed the thought aside as Braxl gently swept a strand of hair from my face. I didn’t want to dwell on my mission, the explosives, or the peril looming over everyone enjoying the festivities on the ship.

I wanted to feel him. I wanted to feel it like it was real.

His touch was tender, cupping my face. I found myself captivated and a bit bashful under the gaze he fixed on me. His eyes showed genuine warmth and concern, not just desire.

But the way he leaned his hips into mine on the bed made it clear the lust was an important part, too.

Braxl brushed his lips across my forehead, trailing down and kissing my eyelids as his hands gripped my back.

“You’re mine…” he whispered.

“You keep saying that. Does that mean you are mine, too?”

He pulled back, and his eyes flashed a sweet taunt. “I guess it does. What would you do with this possession you now have?”

I licked my lips and smiled. “If I can have you forever, then I want all of you now…”

His fangs extended, and he touched them with his tongue. “All of me? You sure you can handle that again?”

A shiver went down my spine as I remembered the glorious euphoria of the toxin that was still a bit present in the warmth of my body. A hunger burned in my chest to have more. To be swept away on those waves of desire.
