About the Author

Greetings! I’m Vivienne, and I write all things magical and mysterious, from fairy tales to alien romance to futuristic whodunits.

I’ve been writing fantastic tales since I could hold a pencil. Captivated by fanciful stories from a young age, I gradually began to create my own worlds filled with fantastic creatures and monstrous beasts. Now a USA Today bestselling author, I'm still sending my characters on as many wild journeys and dark adventures as I can.

In addition to spinning a good story, my loves include chocolate, reading good books, traveling, and taking as many bubble baths as possible. When I’m not writing, you can find me roaming around the southern U.S. with my husband and two very fluffy cats. I’m the redhead in pajamas.

Chapter 1

Cassiopeia

It's hot. The kind of hot that invades your body and leaves you listless and exhausted. The kind of hot that makes you long for a cool pool to dip in and a cooler drink to quench your parched throat.

There are no pools here, nor cocktails filled with fruit and crushed ice to sip on. Zure is a thriving multi-being colony that causes a different kind of thirst. One pertaining to a bygone era, where warriors fight one another to the death for the entertainment of a crowd.

I sit under an awning where waves of blistering heat feel like they singe my eyeballs.

The beings around me don't appear troubled by the climate. Most who make their home here have adapted to the wild temperature fluctuations, although few are native.

They come here because Zure exists outside the agreed interplanetary laws.

They come here for the gladiator games.
