Bo wasn’t the least bit concerned about Declan’s demeanor. “Because she’s fucking intoxicated. If I’m drunk off my ass, she’s even further gone than me. She’s just fantastic at hiding it.”

I counted the empty glasses. Oops, I should have done a better job keeping track of my drinks. I’d never been drunk in my life, no matter how hard I tried.

Over the years, I’d gotten tired of explaining it, and so I stopped. And now Bo thought I was drunk. It was a good thing she was kind of clueless about normal human anatomy. If I were a regular human, I’d probably need a stomach pump about now.

“At any rate, she’s not deciding when she’s not in her right mind,” Bo concluded. Then to me, she said, “When you’ve sobered up, then you can decide if you want to bounce on them for a bit.”

Goddess, could the ground just open me up and swallow me whole now?

To my surprise, the orcs didn’t bat an eye. They each spoke. “Ah, this makes sense.”

“Thank you, warrior, for informing us.”

“Of course, we shall agree to those terms.” In a softer voice for me, Declan added, “I have noticed drink, but no food. Have you eaten?”

I shook my head. I didn’t trust my voice. No one should be allowed to sound like he did. Like the promise of good sex and wishes and dreams all wrapped up in a delicious, candy-coated shell. Goddess, he could tell me to debase myself right here and now, and I would do it.

“How convenient,” Rothgar exclaimed. “We can have dinner together. Jalen, pull over those chairs.”

Rothgar and Jalen were already pulling chairs over while Declan swiveled the table top so it could expand and accommodate their presence.

“I’m game if you are, Capri,” Bo said in a mild tone. I knew that if I said I wanted to go home, she would back me up.

Though Declan and his friends intimidated me in more ways than one, they intrigued me more. “I’m not one to turn down free food. I’m always down to feast.”

“What a coincidence,” Jalen said. “I’m always down to feast, too.”

The innuendo was obvious. I buried my face in my menu, even though I already had the whole thing memorized.

“For fuck’s sake,” Bo exclaimed, “all you guys need to pump your brakes until after the appetizers are served, at least.”

All three of the orcs’ dark laughter promised that they would do no such thing.

Chapter Three

A WITCH IN HAND

Declan Tharraka

Capricorn was ripe and ready to be taken. I knew it as I knew my name. I offered her the best morsels of food from my plate as it was served.

She allowed me to place the food on her plate. Soon, she would feed from my hand.

Capricorn Jade. A fitting name for one so lovely, yet so practical.

Her tongue darted over her lips. Wild imaginations played vividly in my head that I barely heard a word she was saying. I forced myself to focus.

“So, you said you were hunting? What are you all hunting?”

You, I thought.

Before I could supply an answer, Rothgar spoke. “Usually, deer and other big game. Tonight, we were tracking an elusive creature,” he said. His voice was rough with need. The desire to rut was strong in him. His pulse thundered for all to hear, nor did he bother to curtail the mating hum that rumbled in his chest.

“Well, that sounds like a challenge. I hope you find what it is you’re looking for soon,” she said.

“We always find our quarry,” he promised. “In fact, we were in town to make sure we have the supplies we need. We like being thorough.”

It was good that he sat farthest from Capri. He was already struggling to contain his urge to carry her off, and he was not the one seated next to her.
