"Nonsense. There's no reason to drive all the way out there for no reason, when you can spend the night get some rest and then go out in the day time."

"What if it gets worse over night though?"

"Better to be rested now right then just push through the night for no reason. Two hours might turn into four."

"This is true," Kro agreed. "I am not worried of course. But it seems an unnecessary risk when for the same amount of time can be spend in comfort and then an early leave in the morning."

I wasn't feeling particularly ready to leave anyway. I haven't had such a dinner with my parents and family, and honestly it felt pleasant. "What about you?" I asked Kro. "Are you comfortable staying? It's not like we have overnight bags?"

"I am flexible whichever. And regarding clothing, I have an overnight bag with me at all times. Sometimes the work I do needs some flexibility."

I could imagine. Being the president of the Berserkers MC would probably require him to have a go-bag for all kinds of situations. "Well, if you're okay with it, let's just plan on leaving in the morning?"

I was rewarded with smiles from Kro and my parents. Guess that was the right answer to their unspoken question.

"I am okay with it. I will grab my things from the trunk."

The rest of the night was filled with a few rounds of fast scrabble, a dirty bit of Cards Against Humanity, and a karaoke battle where I had to defend my title. As the night quieted down, we all took turns cleaning up. When the kitchen was wiped down and turned off, it was officially quitting time.

One by one, my aunts and cousins left. The goodbye tour would normally be long and drawn out, but it turned out that my parents wanted to drive out with them.

"What are you going out for this late at night?" I asked, feeling a little reversal in our roles.

"I wanted to get something from the big store. I forgot about it. And then this way, you can park in the driveway."

It seemed unnecessarily complicated, but I pressed my lips together. It had been a pretty pleasant day and I didn't want to ruin the vibe by saying something that would start a fight. "Okay."

"The guest bedroom downstairs should be ready to go. The beddings were newly washed this morning, and the bathroom is more private downstairs."

They left before I could gather my thoughts. Did my mom--my extremely conservative mom--just give the go ahead for Kro and me to share the same room? A room that was in the basement, farthest away from their own master bedroom suite upstairs?

"What's wrong?"

"Did you just hear my mother say to use the room downstairs?"

Kro tilted his head to the side as if reliving the words he heard. "Yes as far as I recall, she stated that the guest bedroom was ready to go."

"So I'm not going insane," I said under my breath. "Anyway, let's check it out. I didn't think to go down there since it was mainly storage when we were growing up."

The laundry room was still tucked away on one end, but the rest of the basement got an upgrade. It was shaped like a "U." A full on den occupied the main middle section, with a TV and comfortable sofas. Another game table was in the corner along with a foosball table. My dad's treadmill was down here, too, with signs that he's used it recently.

The bedroom was tucked away in the very back corner, across from the gigantic remodeled bathroom with double sinks, shower, and a hot tub so large I could swim laps in it. The cherry on top was the floor to ceiling mirrors that lined the walls. It was unsettling to see my shocked face reflected in multiple angles around me.

"What is happening?" I said.

"These accommodations would do."

At least Kro approved of it all. "Well, I guess this convenient. I knew my parents said they were upgrading their house, but this is a huge surprise."

I wandered into the bedroom, and the second surprise happened too. Not only was the room large, there was the largest bed in the world in the middle of the room. There was a size called California King, and before the rift wars, that was the largest size manufactured mattress anyone could order.

This mattress was the newly dubbed "monster king" sized bed, and was an impressive nine feet long and eight feet wide. The bed alone was the size of a standard bedroom.

"Holy hell," I squeaked out. "How did they even get this bed to fit down here?"

"I believe that it is actually two mattresses molded together to be one, so it would be easy to transport. I have one this size."

Of course he did. "Well, it would make sense for you to have one. Quite another for my parents. It's like you can sleep an entire family on a bed this size." I tested the bouncy factor, and perched on the edge. Ridiculously comfortable.
