Smiling to herself she stumbled into the bedroom and found some pajamas more suitable to Christmas morning.

Except then she went out into the living room and saw him lying there, no shirt, his jeans undone, exactly the way he had left them last night.

She licked her lips. He was so beautiful. And right about now, he looked like her Christmas present. Undressed and under the tree.

She smiled to herself, and set about making some coffee.

As soon as it started brewing, she heard him stir.

“Merry Christmas, Brody,” she said.

“Merry Christmas,” he mumbled, dragging his hand over his face, the sound of his skin against his whiskers intimate, sending a shiver through her body.

“Did you sleep well?”

“I did. But I have a feeling my back is going to hurt like a son-of-a-bitch today.”

“Well. Probably. Sleeping on the floor was maybe not the best idea.”

“No,” he said.

“Does your family have plans for the day?”

“Gus will go to the Sullivans’. Hunter will go to the Garretts’. I imagine Tag and Nelly will go spend the day with her mother.”

“So everybody else’s families are a little more into the holidays than yours?”

“Yeah. The Garretts... They had a pretty dysfunctional upbringing, but I guess Sawyer and Wolf worked really hard to keep things light for Elsie. Hunter’s wife, you know.”

“Yeah. I know. And Gus’s wife?”

“She has all sisters. The Sullivans. You saw them at the town hall. They make everything, cook all kinds of stuff. They love a big celebration. Their parents are... Kind of problematic, but they aren’t horrible. They all still speak—though the parents never come back to the ranch. Alaina certainly has her issues with them, but it’s not anything like our family.”

“Right. Well... Lachlan and Charity are invited to have some food.”

“That might be good. Her dad has been pretty sick. Maybe he can come?”

“I’d love that. When you text him, I’m going to start turkey and mashed potatoes and stuffing. All the things that I normally make for Benny.”

“Sounds good.”

“Two o’clock, probably.”

“Okay,” he said.

“But first you need to open your presents from me.”

“I still can’t believe you got me presents. And what the hell are they?”

“You’re going to have to open them and find out.”

“How do I do this?”

“Well, usually I have Benny sit on the floor, and I hand him his presents. But since you’re not my child, we can do it however you want.”

He laughed. “Okay. I can appreciate that.”

“Except... Here. This one first. Because it’s lame.”
