Next time I travel for work, I’m flying out my regular driver from New York too. I’m too busy for near-tragedies, and it would’ve been a goddamn mess if we’d actually hit that woman.

I’m already late for my meeting.

I look up from my phone and out the window to see if I can catch a glimpse of her as the driver hits the gas, but she’s gone.

I roll my shoulders, trying to banish the feeling of her in my arms. She felt solid. Real.

Beautiful.

One of the most beautiful women I’ve ever seen, honestly, with arresting green eyes set in a heart-shaped face. Soft, naturally blonde hair. Curves that felt too fucking good beneath my hands as I lifted her up.

The scent of her perfume is still in my nose, clinging to my clothes. It makes me recall sunlight and fresh flower petals and something sweeter.

Something that tugs at me, deep and primal and completely irresistible.

She’s different than the kinds of women who usually circle my orbit. I find myself regretting that she didn’t take me up on the offer of a ride—if not to the hospital, than to someplace else. It would’ve been a nice distraction, whisking her into the back of the car and losing myself in her for the night.

My phone buzzes several times in a row where it’s clutched in my fist, and I drag my thoughts back to reality.

“Fuck.” I sigh, typing a quick response to put out a work fire.

There are so many fires to put out, especially since Dynasty is about to go public.

It’s been a long time coming, and now that the moment is here, there’s plenty that can—and often does—go wrong.

But I believe in the business, a multi-billion dollar empire that I built from the ground up. The high-end workout equipment that we design and produce has the capability of putting gyms out of business for good. That’s how groundbreaking it is.

Everybody thinks I use a personal trainer to maintain my body, but I’m a subscriber to my own product. Why would I expect others to purchase the system if I don’t use it myself?

Our sales, and the hundreds of thousands of satisfied customers, are proof that Dynasty has what it takes to shake up the industry.

And going public? That’s the next step.

I shove lingering thoughts of the woman on the street, beautiful though she was, out of my mind.

I need to put my company first right now. It needs more investors, and I’m sure I’ll be able to recruit them here in San Francisco.

Shaking my head, I try to focus. I’m fighting a losing battle though.

Because I can still smell her.

Chapter 2

Sophie

A sharp bark of laughter erupts from my throat as I stare at the tiny dress Jacquelyn is brandishing in my face.

“What? No. Absolutely not.”

“Sophie, you’re a knockout. You’re going to look stunning in this. The guys at the club won’t know what hit them.”

I bat away the skimpy dress she’s still dangling tantalizingly in front of me. It’s more air than fabric, just a couple of straps crossing over each other to—barely—cover the goods.

“I don’t care. I’m not wearing that out in public,” I protest. “Or in private.”

“Come onnn,” Jacquelyn whines. “I picked it out just for you. Will you at least try it on?”

“I’ll get arrested if I wear this. I’ll look like a hooker.”
