“Yay! Thanks.”

Wow, Jax and Lexi. I wonder if Damian knows. When I had wanted them together, I never imagined it’d just be a random hookup. That could spell trouble. What if they have a falling out? Damian and I’ll be stuck in the middle. Oh Lexi, what am I going to do with you?

I get home from work and reluctantly get ready for tonight. If I didn’t love that girl there’s no way I’d ever be doing this. I throw on a pair of tight fitted jeans and a flowy burgundy top. My cell vibrates with an incoming text and I don’t even have to look to know who it is.

Lexi: Make sure you dress up. Jax said it’s a fancy place.

Lilah: I’m wearing jeans.

Lexi: Oh, come on! You know that’s not what I meant.

Lilah: Do you want me to come or…

Lexi: Fine! Wear your jeans. I’m wearing a dress.

Lilah: Do you want a medal?

Lexi: Haha. You’re not funny. See ya soon. XO.

This is as dressed up as I’m getting. She’s lucky I’m even wearing heels. I’d much rather stay home in bed and think about Damian, like I do every morning and every night. There's a constant ache inside me. It’s deafening. Not that I ever want the twinge of pain to stop. I want to feel the hurt, I want to swim in it until I’m covered in agony, and when I close my eyes and dream, I want it filled with us.

Lilah: I’m heading out now.

Lexi: Me too.

Lexi: Jax offered to give me a ride…

Lilah: Oh, I bet he did.

Lexi: Shut up! I do kind of wish it was that kind of ride though.

Lexi:OK, never mind, I take that back.

Lilah: You’re so going to screw him again.

Lexi: Shhh, stop sending out the bad juju.

Lilah:Bye! See you soon. Try to keep your legs closed on the ride over.

Lexi: I hate you!

Lilah: I love you more.

How am I supposed to look at Jax knowing he’s banged my best friend?Ugh. Can’t wait to see how this plays out.

I park my car at a garage and walk the block over to the restaurant. I enter Le Amour and by the looks of it it’s very classy and very French. I glance around the busy dining area and the women are dressed in slacks or dresses. No jeans in sight. Well, I’m definitely a tad underdressed, and the old Lilah would care, but the miserable Lilah doesn’t. At. All.

The hostess leads me to our table where everyone’s already waiting for me. Jax spots me first. “There she is!” He stands up, giving me a quick hug and pulls out my chair.

“Thanks.”

“I’m glad you came, Lilah,” Gabe says. “We wanted to make sure you’re doing okay. Damian would want that.” He picks up his glass of white wine, pulling in a sip.

I take in the large, dimly lit room with its high ceilings and wall to floor windows then look back at him. “Well this place is a bit fancy just to check in on me. I would’ve been fine with something less um, expensive.”
