I can’t stay here. I need to go back to the gym, so I have something to punch. I’m going to lose my damn mind. I find my cell and send the guys a group text.

Damian: Where are we going tonight?

Gabe: Are you saying you’re coming out with us?

Jax: Our baby’s all grown up.

Damian: Shut up man. I’m in no mood. Give me the location.

Gabe: The Blacksmith at 9.

I change into a pair of grey sweats and a black tank and head to the gym again. I need to release this tension before it eats me alive.

I work out for a couple of hours before my body can’t take the punishment any longer. Once I’m home, I figure I’ll just stay in. That is until I picture him with his hands all over her again. Clearly this won’t stop. Maybe drowning in a bottle of something strong will fix it. Yeah, probably won’t but I get ready to go out anyway.

I arrive at a small, dark dance club with loud music booming from all around. What did I get myself into?I hate this shit.

They told me they’re by the bar, so I make my way there, squeezing in between people who smell like alcohol drowned in too much fragrance.

I see them with drinks in hand and they lift their chin up to me in greeting. “You guys couldn’t pick something a little more low key?” I holler over the music, finally reaching them.

“We did tell you the name. Google’s your friend my man,” Jax shouts. “Suck it up buttercup. You need a change of pace anyway,” he continues, ordering me a shot of something. “Here. Drink. You’ve been a miserable shit for days.” I close my eyes and down the shot, the vodka burning inside and I crave more, anything to drown out the pain she’s left me with.

Where is she right now? Is he hurting her?Are they fucking?I clench and unclench my fists and order another shot. It slides down my throat, coating me with liquid fire. After the fourth one, I definitely feel the alcohol, the buzz setting in.

“Have you spoken to her at all since what happened with you two?” Gabe asks. They both know how close I came to burying myself inside her.

Nostrils flared, I crack my knuckles and take shaky breaths. “I saw her today. She was going to meet him earlier, and is probably still with that motherfucker.” Neither of them says a word, probably seeing the anger on my face.

I order another shot with plans to go home after because I have no desire for a repeat of drunken Damian. As I wait for my order, a small hand wraps around my abs. I look down to find long, red fingernails digging into my stomach as she rubs me from side to side. I turn to the right, throwing the guys a questioning look. Jax’s mouth edges up into a half-smile while Gabe just shrugs. My pulse quickens. Is it her? I don’t remember if her nails were red today.

I slowly rotate to find a stranger. My heart descends back to the despair I was in a minute ago.

She slides her hand up to my neck and brings my face close until her lips press against my ear. “Hey there, handsome. I’m Brittany. I’ve been watching you for a bit and was hoping you’d want to dance,” her voice drips with desire. “Pretty please?”

I pull back and finally get a good look at her. She has long, jet black hair, and light blue eyes. She doesn’t look like Lilah but in my mind, she’s a close second. I want Lilah so badly I’d probably conjure her up from mid-air.

My first instinct is to tell this girl, no, to say I have a girlfriend. But I don't. The woman I want is with a scumbag.Screw this. I grab her hand and pull her slender body flush against me. “Let’s go.” Her eyes go wide before a small grin appears across her red lips.

I take her to the dance floor and she drapes her arms around my neck. Her hips gyrate seductively to some song about a man who wants a woman belonging to someone else. How fucking fitting. The words add to my rage until I'm drowning in it.

Pretending it’s Lilah’s body I’m holding, I tighten my grip around her lower back, pressing her to me. Even the alcohol can’t keep my thoughts off Lilah. How could she do this to herself? To us? Doesn’t she realize what I’d do for her?

Needing an escape, I flip Brittany around, so her ass is thrust up against my thighs. My fingers dip into her hips and hers dig into my hands, while she slides her body up and down against me, suggestively.

After the song ends, she turns my way. Licking her lips, pink tongue darting out, I know she wants me, and I need to forget Lilah. Maybe this girl could help me forget.

I lean into her ear, “Come home with me.” She covers my mouth with hers giving me all the answer I need. I don’t even wave goodbye to the guys before we go, but I see their wide-eyed expressions as we leave.

Chapter 13

Damian

Brittany and I wait for the elevator on the way up to my place. She reclines her head against my shoulder as the doors open, unconcerned with the other two people already there. Ash wears a mocking smile, arms wrapped around Lilah from behind as she silently gasps. I notice tears brimming in her eyes, but she tries to blink them away. I wish I could kiss away her suffering.I’m hurting too, baby.

We came so close to falling, I could just taste our love. She took root inside me, made it her home, her safe haven, but then she tore herself away, and now I’m here. Empty.
