“Why are you in Damian’s office? Are we having a playdate?”

“Just get in here, will ya?”

“Sounds serious. Coming Dad.” When he walks into my office, he notices our solemn faces and folds his arms. “Whoa, thisdoeslook serious. What happened?”

Once they’re both seated, I tell them every detail. Jax’s jaw flexes so hard I think he may lose some teeth. Gabe just stares daggers into a wall, the anger is there in his grey eyes waiting to unleash.

“So, what are we going to do about this?” Jax asks.

“We?”

He punches his palm a few times. “Hell yeah, we! No woman’s getting hurt while I sit around. Fuck that! You want to beat the shit out of him? Let’s go. We’ve got some time to kill before our meeting!”

I rub my neck until it hurts. “Believe me, I thought of that. I wanted to pay him a visit, but she would’ve hated me or what if he hurt her again because of me? So, I got lost in a bottle of Jack Daniels instead.” I can’t take another second of her being with him. I just can’t.

Gabe stands, pacing around the office. “If she won’t press charges, she has very little chance of being safe. Hurting him won’t do much except anger him, and I agree he may use that against her. We can, however, pay him a visit anyway, but we won’t hurt him. We can just—put the fear of God in him a bit.”

Gabe seems like the most level headed one of us, but he’s also calculating and lethal. That’s what made him so dangerous in the military. He can kill with his bare hands and not even flinch, but he can also show impeccable restraint when necessary.

“What do you have in mind?” I ask.

“Right now, he thinks he has the upper hand. He believes no one knows what he’s doing. And he’s clearly holding some sort of leverage over her, so he feels big and in control. Let’s make him feelreallysmall.” His lips turn up into a vicious smile.

“Hell yeah, that’s what I’m talking about!” Jax says.

“Neither of you have to get involved but thank you.”

Jax rolls his eyes. “Oh, shut up jackass. As if we’d let you handle this alone.”

“Believe me, I’m going to have fun toying with that motherfucker,” Gabe says, without a trace of humor in his voice.

My muscles are tense like they’re itching to get close to that piece of garbage.Soon. “We go tonight. Jax, get his name from Lexi. Just make some shit up and I’ll find his address in our system.”

I have to get my nerves under control before I come face to face with that cocksucker. I can easily kill him right now. But Gabe is right, that won’t solve anything. We need to convince him it’s in his best interest to leave her alone.

After a few minutes we have his name and address. Lexi gave it up without a second thought.Ash Davis, you just fucked with the wrong woman.

After work, we drive to his colonial home, located on the corner of a quiet block. The overcast skies are dreary and dark as we head up the steps of his home. I feel a kinship to them.

We knew he wasn’t home yet because we did a bit of research. When I say a bit, I mean a shit load. We found out he had been arrested two years ago for assaulting some guy at a bar who ended up in the hospital. But he wasn’t sentenced, just fined. It was his first offense and his parents got him a good lawyer. Oh, and they’re loaded, and we know money talks. But, if he gets arrested for what he did to her, it may cost him.

I’m ready to get this over with. I want to hurt him in any way I can. Every time I see her soft skin marred so viciously, it haunts me, and the need to inflict pain, to avenge her, grows until it’s all I feel.

We’re wearing leather gloves for the occasion so as to not leave any fingerprints. Jax does the honors and quickly picks the lock to avoid drawing an audience. Setting foot inside, we look in every room for possible weapons. Finding none, we wait in his living room, which is immediately to the left of the foyer.

A partial wall separates the two areas. The rest of the room is an open floor plan. There’s a black fireplace with a large TV hung on the wall above it, and a brown leather sectional on the opposite side of the room. We stand, not wanting to sit, in case that leaves behind evidence.

Twenty minutes later, the sound of a screeching car moves closer. That must be him. The engine’s turned off and heavy footsteps echo on the ground outside.Show time. We move to hide behind the wall and remain still. Not a sound is heard but for his keys jangling as they enter the door, and then he opens it.

Peering around, I see him before he sees me. He locks up and starts walking to the kitchen, straight ahead, while looking at his phone. Only then do we make ourselves known and let the fun begin.

“I hear you like to beat women.” Ash swings his head toward the sound of Gabe’s voice and drops his phone, sending it skidding against the wood floor. His eyes dart frantically to the living room where a large shadow looms.

I stay hidden behind the corner, offering me a good view. Jax turns on the light and walks over next to Gabe. I love seeing Ash so visibly pale as he takes in both guys with their arms crossed against their chest. Both are tall and massive, while Ash looks like a child in comparison. He backs up against the wall like the weak, pathetic piece of shit that he is.

“Who the fuck are you?” His voice trembles with fear. I’m enjoying the sound.
