“I still want you to keep a low profile so no fights all right? He is angry and will try and get you on something. He has a lot of money and influence around the place. People won’t want him pulling his funding so will put up with his crap. There was a rumor once before when two people were going to sue him that they mysteriously died in a crash, but nothing was proven.”

“I’ll stay away from him and I’ll be good.” Well, I would try but couldn’t make promises. The guy had a screw loose, but I knew a few like that around town.

“Now, do I need to know about anything in Australia? I’m not going to get some strange person saying you did weird shit down there.”

“Nope, I just had a holiday and chilled. I kept a low profile. Someone thought they knew me, but I said it wasn’t me.”

“Good. Give David a call and let him know you are back. He is still working on those deals, so fingers crossed.”

I called David, and the deals were still on the table. The man was magic. At the season’s end, I would be going to Iceland to film. The other movies were still in the early stages so would be a year or so away. My career was heating up. It just all felt a bit flat without the sexy Emmy here to share it with. I would call Jack. He always picked me up, and we would have a good time if I could stay awake from the jetlag.

An hour later, he was at my door. I had thought we would go for drinks but nope. As usual Jack didn’t do anything by half.

“It’s great to have you back, mate. See the crocodiles didn’t get you then.” He patted me on the back and then I followed him out to his car. “Warned you not to go swimming in those creeks nude or they might snap your old fella right off.”

“No, I can say I am still intact. I have to say your country is beautiful. Especially the Aussie ladies.”

“You didn’t go and break a few hearts while you were there, did you?”

“No hearts broken. I behaved and thankfully no one recognized me. Well, one did but I pretended I didn’t know who they were talking about.” I might not have broken any hearts, but I had a feeling I had left a little of my own behind. “So, what have you got planned for me?”

“You need to stay awake to fight the jetlag so we should stay outside. I’ve booked us in to go parasailing. They reckon you can get up to eight hundred feet in the air.”

“You just can’t do anything small, can you? I would have been happy with a swim at the beach at your place and a beer.”

“No way. We need to do something to keep you awake and the adrenalin pumping.”

We drove to the marina at Del Ray and I thought this activity as mad as the white-water rafting. I liked Jack, but his company was not as good as Emmy’s. I still kept thinking about her. I told Jack about my activities just not the sexual ones. We headed to Fisherman’s Village and down to the dock. There was a speed boat we would be heading out on and about four other people here for the thrill.

The guy drove the boat out into the bay and got ready with our life jackets on. Once we were far enough out, he hitched the two of us up and the boat sped away as the parachute with a big happy smile on it floated behind us. The coastline stretched out in front of me, and I could see the pier with all the tourists wandering around. Venice Beach, Malibu, and Santa Monica were all before us. There was even a pod of dolphins.

“You were right, Jack. This was what I needed. As long as I get a beer afterward.”

“No problem.”

I felt so detached from the world up here with just the wind blowing past us. I could see why Jack did this. You felt so alive. After about eight minutes they slowly winched us back to the boat. I hadn’t even got my feet wet but had the best time. Back on shore we found a local bar and sat in the sunshine with our beer. Jack clinked my bottle.

“So back to work tomorrow. Has everything blown over?” he asked as he took a gulp.

“Yep. I just need to steer clear of the infamous Mr. Sendler. I thought the guy a prick for hurting his wife but from what Jenny told me, it may be worse. People have met an untimely end who messed with him. Reckon he must have some nasty connections so I’ll stay away.”

“What about Gill?”

“She hasn’t contacted me. I’ll probably send her a text to see if she is okay. I just don’t want to get involved.”

“I hear it was good news on the Iceland deal.” Jack said.

“Yep. I should be able to do it in the offseason at the end of the year.” That was if I didn’t go back to Australia and search for Emmy. I didn’t want to stalk the poor lady.

“Now all you need to do is try and stay out of trouble. By the way. Declan and Callie are having a party in a week or so for the twins. Some sort of naming ceremony. He said they’re inviting you.”

“As long as they aren’t expecting me to be the godfather to the twins. I can’t see that being safe. Then again, I think they would be mad asking you too.”

“I would be the fun uncle. So, tell me, did you have a bit of action in the bedroom down under?”

“No details, but yep, I met a lady. She actually fell into my pool at my villa.”

“That was one way to get your attention. I assume you rescued her and did mouth-to-mouth.”
