I got outside in time and heaved up my club sandwich in the snow beside the truck. Glenda got me into the passenger seat and she was crying as she drove the squad out of the loop and headed for the highway.

“Don’t worry about your car, Glen. We’ll get it tomorrow.”

“Do you think it will be okay?”

“Sure. Drive straight to the lockup in Coyote Creek.”

“Okay, sure.”

“I need you to help me get this fucker into a cell.” She drove and I slumped down in the passenger seat and wallowed in pain. My arm was hurting like motherfucking hell and I needed the pills that were in her purse.

“Can I open your purse?”

“Do you need the pills?”

“Yes.”

“Go ahead. There’s no water.”

I dug the vial out of the junk in Glenda’s purse, opened the childproof top and shoved three in my mouth. I swallowed them dry and checked the time to see how fast they worked.

“Do you know where the station is in Coyote Creek?”

“I might have seen it on the main street once or twice.”

“I’ll point it out when we get there. Park at the back.”

“Okay.”

The dogs both growled and I turned my head to see what was going on. Garrison was shifting in his seat but he couldn’t go far.

“Sit still or the dogs will rip your dick off.”

Glenda shivered.

Sheriff’s Office. Coyote Creek.

“We’re here. Drive to the back.”

Glenda parked nice and close to the back door and shut the engine down.

“Let me get the door and open the run before we unhook the asshole from the truck.”

“Okay,” said Glenda.

“Watch him,” I said to the dogs as I struggled to get out of the truck. I wasn’t used to having only one arm and I kept trying to use it. Still numb and that’s the way I wanted it to stay. Pipe dream.

I stuck my key in the back door, opened it, and went inside. Total silence inside, the way it should be. I unlocked the run then went back to the truck for Tibor.

“What should I do?” asked Glenda.

“Go into the kitchen and make coffee.” I hauled Tibor Garrison into the run and he battled against me. The dogs growled and snapped at him and Max tore a chunk out of his jeans and grazed the fucker’s leg with sharp fangs to give him a message.

It was a battle, but I was able to shove Tibor into an empty cell. I let out a breath and slammed the door shut.

“There you go, Tibor. You have a good night.”

“Fuck you, Sheriff,” he shouted at me. “I’ll get Tammy back. I’ll be out of here by tomorrow and I’ll get her back.”
