“I ain’t saying nothing to that stubborn big brother of mine. I want to see how this plays out.”

Smiling, she relaxed. If she ever got to know Jaxon, she was sure they would get along just fine.

“Thanks.” She gave him a wave and headed back inside her condo. Closing the door, she leaned back against it and breathed a sigh of relief. That was done, and now came the hard part.

Taking a seat on the couch, she called the number before she could chicken out. Leaning back in her seat, she kicked off her shoes and tucked her feet underneath her.

“Hello?” a feminine southern voice answered.

“May I speak with Mrs. Keith, please?”

“This is she. May I ask who’s calling?”

Alana inhaled and closed her eyes. She hadn’t spoken with this woman before, and wasn’t even sure London had told his parents about her.

“Yes, ma’am. My name is Alana Thornton. I’m London’s girlfriend.” She paused as the pain in her heart spread. “Well, I was his girlfriend. I messed up, and I wanted to reach out to you for your help in winning him back.”

The line drew silent.

Alana glanced down at her phone to see if they had been disconnected.

“Well, I’ll be. I never thought I’d hear the word ‘girlfriend’ in the same sentence as either of my boys.”

Alana giggled when the woman broke out in a fit of laughter. She knew that this was a desperate move, but she was a desperate woman, trying to make everything right.

“It’s true. But I did something stupid, and now I’ve made a mess of things,” she admitted.

“Honey, you sound really sweet, and the fact that you called me to help you get back with my boy tells me we’re going to be really good friends. What do you need from me, darlin’?”

Alana’s shoulders slumped in relief. She didn’t know what to expect when she had dialed the number, but someone upstairs was truly looking out for her.

There was no way she wouldn’t win back London’s heart.

London stood in his family room, staring down at the items in front of him. They were the perfect, most thoughtful gifts he had ever received.

He’d been shocked when he had first received the package, knowing that he hadn’t ordered anything. But to his surprise, he was rendered speechless. A three-speed stereo turntable with two built-in stereo speakers were nestled inside the box, along with an album.

That had been two weeks ago.

He picked up the album and stared at it. It was in pristine condition. The deep blue of the background, and the man sitting on the bench next to a full moon artwork, took him back to his childhood. This album had gotten plenty of play time on Saturday mornings when his mother cleaned.

“What You Won’t Do for Love,” by Bobby Caldwell.

London chuckled at the memory of his mother dancing around while she folded laundry. With two growing boys who were into sports, and everything to do with the outdoors, there was always plenty of clothes that needed to be washed and put away.

London’s chest tightened at the thought of how deep this gift was. Alana had truly listened to him when he spoke of his childhood. His parents both loved music, and that love had passed down to he and his brother. Neither of them could play a tune, but there were plenty of memories of them sitting around with their parents while they played their favorite tunes.

Never had he met a woman who made him feel the way she did. He could just be himself around her. She didn’t care about his money or the fame. She never asked for anything from him.

He had enough money to purchase anything he wanted, but this gift was straight from the heart.

It pained him that she had thought so little of him and their budding relationship. He knew he had a track record, but the difference between the women in the past and Alana was that he truly wanted to be with her. The others meant nothing. They were a night of fun and that was it. No attachments.

He hadn’t thought of another woman since he first kissed Alana. It was like something inside of him knew she was the one for him.

She was a good girl, and kept him grounded. Now that he thought about it, he could see how he was spiraling out of control. Had it not been for Alana, he would still be out there partying and hooking up with random women.

Alana made him see what was important in life. He wanted to explore the thought of a future with her.
