"Hours?? So I can't get it back today?"

He shook his head. "Not a chance. I'll have to tow it out of here first. I can try to have it fixed the day after tomorrow."

I sighed.

"So what do you say?"

I retrieved Harper's luggage from the truck and tossed him the key. "Get to it. Bring it to the motel when you're done."

When I returned to the motel, Harper was up and waiting at the reception. "Hey," she said, getting to her feet. "How did it go? Haley told me you went to get the car fixed."

"Yeah, about that," I started, my tone filled with resignation. "The mechanic said he can't finish fixing it today, so…."

"What? Fuck! You've got to be kidding me," she exclaimed, frustration etching lines on her forehead. She ran a hand through her hair in exasperation. "How are we supposed to get to the airport today? We are at least a couple hours from the airport I need to fly out of, and the roads are still being worked on, so a taxi or uber is not really an option at this moment. What if they had already rescheduled the flight? Huh? I'm going to miss it?"

"Did you check online?"

"The cell network is still not working yet," she grumbled. "I cannot do anything."

"I can lend you my car," Haley suddenly suggested from behind the counter. "You can take Harper to the airport and return it to me afterward," she smiled. "I don't mind."

Of course, she didn't, but that only makes one of us.

Harper seemed to mind. She had suddenly grown quiet after sounding so desperate only a minute ago. She snapped her head toward Haley, and I could smell trouble already. For some reason, Haley seemed to be riling her up since we arrived, and Harper seemed very irritable and jealous. I don't know why. Haley’s got nothing on her, and she was working herself up for nothing, but it was interesting to watch.

"Harper? How do you know my name?" She asked.

Fuck!

"Uhm…Logan mentioned it earlier when we were talking, and I just—"

Harper didn't even let her finish. "Logan?" She turned to me, glaring at me. I could feel the ferocity of her gaze on my skin—Harper was mad.

"I'm sorry. Did I say something wrong?" Haley questioned casually. Although, it seemed obvious that she was enjoying getting on Harper's nerves.

"You didn't," Harper muttered, not taking her eyes off me.

"Okay. So, what do you think? Would you like to borrow my car?"

"Sure. I don't see why not, as long as Logan doesn't mind making the trip to return it. Do you?" she arched a brow.

"It shouldn't be a problem. I have to be here to get my car anyways."

"Okay. I'll go get the keys," Haley said, leaving us for a bit.

"You know we can just wait till tomorrow morning if you want."

"Nah. I'm fine with riding in your new friend's car," shots fired. "Aren't you fine with it?"

Friends, huh? I opened my mouth to speak, but Haley returned before I could say anything. "Here," she said, handing her keys to me. "The car is parked outside.

Come with me, and I'll show it to you," Haley took the lead, and we followed.

We stepped into the garage, and there it was—a sleek black Sedan. I approached the car, my hand instinctively caressing the smooth surface, relishing the sensation of cool metal beneath my fingertips. "Woah!" I mouthed, admiring her car. It still looked brand new. "This is a nice ride. Did you just get it?" I faced her.

"Yeah. Last year actually."

"Wow! She's beautiful."
