Chance and Drake both groaned.

“So that’s going well.” Onyx grinned. He was close to Alice, who’d escaped an attempt on her life and hidden with them. Onyx had struck up a friendship with other old ladies after that.

“Is Magic covered?” Drake asked, thinking of Alice.

“Is the man never? You know that fucker replaced all the landmines. Every time I walk across his ground, I expect to hit a dodgy one and get blown sky-high.” Lance growled.

The tension broke as everyone laughed. After he’d helped blow his bar up defending Alice from an attack by a crazed cult, Magic had gone gung-ho, rebuilding his bar and defences. All anyone knew was Magic had ‘made improvements’ and wouldn’t elaborate.

“Washington, anything from you?” Chance asked.

“We had a jewellery store blatantly cased. Our guest took a one-way ticket to hell. But little information. We are all on Fury’s list. He wants all of us gone so he can waltz in, take our businesses, and rule the city. Might be worth informing Ramirez that Fury is seeking a weakness in the department. He’s trying to find a mole,” James answered.

“We’ve had a few fights at two strip clubs, men who stand out, large, bearded, rude, and tatted up. But no cuts have been seen,” Adam added, exchanging a glance with James. “And a dancer was raped. She claims to have noticed a tattoo and identified it as Venomous Fangs. James and I retired her with a care package that will last her a lifetime.”

“Shit,” Inglorious muttered.

“Who the fuck makes war on women and children?” Bat spat, furious.

Hawthorne held up a hand.

“We had a guy come to us three weeks ago. His sister was snatched off the street by a group of bikers. No cuts. We tracked them down,” Davies said.

Hawthorne’s face saddened.

“We found a house two days ago where eight women had been kept. All had been raped multiple times by lots of different men who were identified as Fangs. Three of the ladies were dead. One was this guy’s sister. The other women said she fought them until her death. The problem we’ve got is Fangs are snatching women and using them. And Ramirez hasn’t notified us,” Hawthorne announced.

Drake sat up straight.

“Ramirez is clean. No way is he a dirty cop!” Drake exclaimed.

“Not Ramirez, but someone is. We rescued the living women and have got them to a RT. Phoe has made them secure. But on contacting their families, five ladies were reported missing. The other three had nobody to care about them or nobody who’d realised they’d been snatched. One of the three dead was a girl with no local ties. Nothing shittier than informing two families of their women being killed,” Davies finished.

“Phoe never said a word,” Ace muttered.

“She won’t about clients, but glad she could help,” Drake replied.

“So, what you’re saying is there’s a dirty cop? If they were reported missing, then somebody had to take the report,” Psych stated.

“Exactly. Fury already has a mole in there.” Davies nodded.

“Can Nigel and Leila investigate each officer and see who has weaknesses?” Venom suggested.

“They’re in motion. From the chief down, including admin, will be checked. As soon as we find a flaw, they’ll investigate. For now, I am thinking we may need safe houses set up. We might need to hide targets,” Hawthorne suggested.

Everybody exchanged glances, and then wry smirks flitted around the room.

“So I’m taking that everyone does have at least two safe houses?” Nods of confirmation surfaced throughout the room. “Good, Hawthorne’s has four if you need one,” Hawthorne offered.

“We could move them to our safe houses, too,” Jacob finally spoke.

Drake noted how he and Akemi had been listening carefully and not speaking.

“The Juno Group also has such buildings. We can offer them up, and nobody will ever find them,” Akemi stated with a nod at Buzz.

“Yup,” Buzz agreed. Everyone sent a sideways glance at the paranoid arms expert. He loved to create weapons, and Artemis often boasted something new about her person.

“Any trouble with the Juno Group?” Drake asked Akemi.
