“Of course, Hellfire covers everyone’s insurance. But if those assholes don’t pay for something, let me know, and I’ll cover it,” I replied.

“Thought you might. We’ll keep you updated. Have the police been notified? Because I am rather surprised nobody’s here for statements,” Doc Paul asked. It was the law that the hospital had to report gunshot wounds, and I knew what Paul was asking.

“Police are aware, but there is a huge crime scene they’re dealing with. And they interviewed Drake, Ace, Artemis, and I at the cop shop. I’m sure Ramirez or Nando will be here soon,” I answered.

“Perfect. The surgeons are holding onto the bullets and have placed them in evidence bags for whoever comes. I will check on everyone and keep you updated on when you can visit. Oh, where’s Drake? We had to sedate Wild, and he has gone slightly loopy with the drugs. I’d like to reassure him that although Wild is high as a kite, he’s fine,” Doc Paul said.

I hid a giggle at the straight-laced prospect being high. Wild hated drugs with a passion, so that was kind of funny. It was also relief making me chuckle. Everyone was going to be okay, and that’s all that mattered.

Chapter Two.

Drake

Drake walked into Hellfire’s clubhouse and nodded at the brothers. Big Al walked up and slapped him hard on the back. Drake looked for Bear and Chance and couldn’t see them. He was about to ask when Chatter approached.

“Chance said to join him in church. The others are there,” Chatter announced. “We’re waiting on Inglorious and Psych.”

“Thanks, man,” Drake replied, walking towards Hellfire’s church with Ace on his heels. The allies had called a meeting. It was two weeks after the attack, and luckily for them, everyone had pulled through. Shit had been touch and go with Bone, but he was finally out of hospital and recovering back at the Hellfire compound. The old ladies were spoiling him, according to Phoe.

Drake knocked once as a sign of respect for the sanctity of Hellfire’s church and let himself in. Chance was the first he saw, a grim expression on his face, and Bear by his side. They both nodded. Drake took a seat with Ace, and together they greeted those present.

Lance and Bat, from the Fallen Warriors, were the first two they greeted. An MC based entirely on ex and wounded military. They were a rarity and good men. Jailbait and Wrench from the Devil’s Damned Disciples offered greetings, and Drake responded. Scythe and Tinker from the Devil’s Scythe reached across and clasped hands before Tiger and Crunch from Satan’s Warriors did the same.

To Drake’s surprise, his gaze fell upon Dylan Hawthorne and Davies, his second-in-command. Hawthorne ran Rapid City’s premier PI firm, although they didn’t only stick to investigations. Dylan sent Drake a nod, and Drake responded. Next to them sat James Washington and Adam. Drake cocked an eyebrow at Washington, who merely nodded his head. Everyone knew James had gone clean, but he was still a major player in RC. As far as James was concerned, nothing would touch RC unless he approved it. Even the guy who’d taken over Washington’s illegal shit understood that. Nobody wanted a beef with James Washington.

Surprisingly, Akemi, Artemis’s adopted brother, was present with Buzz, her office manager. Everyone knew that Artemis and Akemi ran the Juno group, but before that, they had terrorised the shit out of the underground in RC. Any bounty, illegal or not, Artemis, as the group was then known, chased. They were also mercenaries. And not to be messed with. They’d gone legal and taken on jobs to free women and children from trafficking as well as sticking to legal bounties.

Sitting next to them was Lieutenant-Colonel Jacob Reeves and his second-in-command, Major Gilbert Cunningham. Known as the Delta Force Rescue, these guys were all ex-Delta Force and made no bones about it. They were rough, tough, and assholes to play with. Drake’s brother Mac was married to Casey, Jacob’s daughter, and Drake often thought his brother had a suicide streak. Mess with Casey and Mac and you would end up in pieces scattered across the globe.

The last to greet them were Onyx and Venom from the Riders of Vengeance. Of everyone present, Drake knew those two were the most dangerous, and that was saying something. There was a dark and hard glint in Onyx’s eye that never disappeared. Finally, Inglorious and Psych from the Unwanted Bastards entered, offered their greetings, and sat down.

“In session, meeting of allies,” Chance said. Behind him sat Rooster, who had a notepad in front of him. Seemed the Hellfire secretary was there to take notes.

“First things, how are your prospects?” Onyx asked, leaning forward.

“Mine are recovering just fine. Gauntlet has a few issues but nothing major, and Savage is still on crutches. The pain we had was getting Carmine and Tye to keep at their careers and not quit to help the club full-time,” Drake answered as Chance nodded at him.

“Be a shame for those two boys to quit their careers. Don’t support their clubs, but they can sure as hell play,” Onyx commented.

“All my guys are also recovering fine. Wraith has a few dizzy spells, and Bone isn’t up to scratch yet. But they’re being loved over by the old ladies, so it’s whether they enjoy the fussing and play along a little longer.” Chance growled.

“Or get fed up and hurry back to shit.” Bear chuckled. His old lady was one of those caring for the two wounded prospects.

“Thinking Bone loves being spoiled, whereas Wraith keeps giving them the slip,” Chance agreed.

“So updates. What we got?” Drake asked, looking around.

“Box Elder is clear; we’ve seen nothing coming our way. Not before the attack or after. Not sure if Venomous Fangs don’t think we’re big enough to worry about,” Lance added.

“Or they do not wanna take on a bunch of ex-military,” Bat concluded.

“No signs of incursion at all?” Onyx questioned, confused.

“Nope. We had a few ride-throughs when Drake informed us of this shit, but nothing since. Either they don’t give a fuck as we said, or they’re too worried,” Lance confirmed.

“Inglorious?” Chance asked.

The dark, curly-haired man shook his head with a grimace.
