“That’s what we hope to find out,” I said.

“But we don’t want Brook to know about it,” Bishop added.

“Why not?” Deacon said. “Maybe she could tell us something about it.”

“No,” I said bluntly. “She’s been through enough trauma. Questioning her about what happened that day will only open up old wounds.”

“It’s bad enough that she has to deal with what happened to Tuesday,” Bishop said.

Deacon nodded. “Right. You guys are right. Her life has been turned upside down enough.” Taking a sip, he looked over his glass at us. “So, we don’t let her know we know that she’s Aurora, and we don’t bring up what happened at that barn.”

“That’s right,” I said. It was my turn to stare into the bottom of my glass. As I swirled the ice cube around in my glass, a chill ran down my spine. “After all,” I muttered, “we all know that Aurora wasn’t the target that fateful day.”

“Right,” Bishop and Deacon said as they nodded heavily.

“And until we find out who wanted to kill us, we can’t say anything to her about this.”

Chapter 9

Brook

––––––––

I WALKED IN THE DIRECTION of the hospital just long enough to ensure Bishop and Rector were convinced that I was going to visit with Tuesday. But as I turned the corner, I then took a quick right and headed straight to the Hunters House.

All was quiet as I walked up to the front porch. I knocked lightly on the door.

Nothing.

I pressed on the door handle and slowly opened the door. “Hello?”

Nothing.

“Dex?” I entered the front foyer. “Garrett? Oliver?”

A repetitive ticking sound drew me to the kitchen.

“Are you guys here?” I walked into the kitchen to find a leaky faucet.

I opened the refrigerator door. Aside from a half empty jar of mayonnaise and a bottle of ketchup, the refrigerator was empty.

“You guys really abandoned the place, didn’t you?”

I was surprised to find that even the pledges were gone. The Dean wasn’t kidding when he said he would suspend the Senior members of the Hunters fraternity. He also said he would suspend the entire fraternity.

He did, and it seemed like the entire house was shut down so quickly that the members didn’t even have time to pack up.

I wondered what happened to make the Dean act so quickly.

I shook my head. Knowing how smart Rector, Deacon, and Bishop really was, I had a hunch they were able to persuade the Dean to reverse every single offense the Saints were accused of and restore them to their full glory.

The Saints...those hot glorious golden boys who can out-fuck any hot studs on campus or anywhere. Smart, brilliant, in great shape, from the best families...now they were my guys.

And I was theirs.

Licking my lips, I set my hand on my hip contemplating my next move.

As the fourth senior member to the Hunters fraternity, I knew that I had every right to be in that house. But still, my stress level was through the roof.
