Just as I bit off a piece of crispy bacon, the doorbell rang.

“You guys expecting anyone?” I said as I got up.

Everyone shook their head.

With a quick wipe of my fingers on the cloth napkin, I turned and headed for the door.

“Dean,” I said as I opened the door and saw him there.

“Good morning, Rector,” he said. “Mind if I come in?”

I stared at him for an uncertain moment. Had he changed his mind? Had he found other accusations to lay on me.

“Sure,” I said as I backed away and gestured for him to come in. “We were just having breakfast.”

“It certainly does smell delightful.”

I led him to the dining room. Everyone looked up, a slightly stunned expression on their faces.

“Look who decided to drop in this morning,” I said as I gestured to the empty chair.

“Thank you,” he said, taking the seat.

“Coffee?” Bishop offered.

“That’d be nice. Thank you.”

Bishop headed to the kitchen and quickly returned with a steaming cup of coffee.

After taking a tentative sip, the dean patted his knees then ran his hands over his thighs. “I’m sure you boys must be wondering what I’m doing here.”

“It has been a rather tumultuous time,” Deacon said. “Seems like it’s one thing after another lately. You can imagine our concern.”

He chuckled. “Don’t worry. It’s nothing like that. In fact, I came by to welcome you – Rector and Bishop – back to SAU.”

“Thank you,” Bishop said.

“I appreciate it, sir,” I said.

“And...” the dean went on. “Of course, I want to officially reinstate you here at the House of Saints, which is, needless to say, the top fraternity here on campus.”

Deacon sat back with a sigh of relief while Bishop and I, elbows on table, leaned in.

“Does that mean the tip we gave you led to something?” I said.

The dean nodded.

Bishop and I both sat back with a satisfied snort.

“I knew it,” Bishop said. He picked up his slice of bacon and took a big bite. “Man, I knew it.”

“What are you guys talking about?” Brook said, fully confused by the exchange.

“The sabotage of the past weeks,” the dean said. “Rector showed me evidence that pointed to another house.”

“Really?” Brook said. “What house?”

“I never thought they would sink so low,” the dean went on, ignoring Brook’s question. “These are some of the wealthiest, elitist... come from good families... spoiled brats... How could they have done this?”
