I let out a long and silent sigh, relieved that he didn’t suspect me and relieved that I could now remove him from my list of suspects for the dance studio fire. The only reason I’d suspected him at all was because I was so certain that he blamed me for everything that was going wrong with the House and wanted revenge.

“Don’t look so devastated,” he said with a playful grin.

“I... It’s just that...” I looked at him, trying to make sense of it all. “You have me so confused, Deacon. I don’t know what to think anymore. I’ve been nothing but kind to you... right from the start. I didn’t deserve the way you treated me.”

“I know,” he said softly. “Can you forgive a silly man who simply didn’t trust his own emotions, his own judgement when faced with such a beautiful and intriguing girl?”

I couldn’t help but laugh. I wanted to throw myself into his arms. Instead, I pulled my hands free of his grasp, leaned back against the windowsill and crossed my arms over my chest. “I’ll have to think about it,” I said with a teasing grin.

His smile widened and warmed my heart. “You were the first and only girl to be allowed into the House of Saints. I guess I wasn’t ready for that. When things started to go sour... I’m sorry. I should have never blamed you. But I guess I had to find out for myself that you had nothing to do with what was going on. And now I know.”

“Okay,” I said, eager to close the matter. “I forgive you.”

He came to me, cupped my cheeks and kissed me, sucking in my lips and breathing me in. “I’m so sorry,” he whispered through the kiss. “I’m so sorry for not trusting you.”

I wrapped my arms around his waist, reveling in the sensations he sent throughout my body.

“But even more than that,” he went on as he left my lips and dropped tiny kisses all over my face. “I’m sorry I wasn’t there for you when you needed me most. I should have come to you. I should have let you know that I was there for you.”

Yes, I wanted to say. After the studio fire I’d felt so alone and scared and unsure. Someone wanted me dead, and I’d had no one to share that fear with.

“But I’m here now,” he said. He ran his thumb along my jawline, his eyes locked onto mine. “I’m here and I’m never leaving.”

He kissed me and this time his tongue joined in the embrace. My entire body responded, pulling him to me as I returned the kiss with just as much passion. My heart ached for the time that we’d wasted. All these weeks and months... wasted.

I let out a giggling yelp when he suddenly swooped me up and brought me to the bed.

“Love me,” I said, my hungry eyes devouring him.

“Always and forever,” he whispered as he pulled my nightie over my head, leaving me standing there with only my skimpy pink underwear. “Always and forever.”

He ripped off my underwear, tossed them over his shoulder then quickly stripped out of his own clothes.

“I want to make love to you,” he said as he kissed his way up my belly, stopping at my breasts to peck each nipple.

He was wild, wilder than he’d ever been before. His hands caressed my skin with urgency, while his lips tasted me as if for the first time.

And when he rammed his engorged cock deep inside me, he was like a man possessed. He pounded harder and harder while I raised my hips to meet him every time.

Just when I thought he’d reached his climax, he pulled out, flipped me over and propped me up on all fours. Once again, he rammed his cock deep inside me while he reached around with one hand to cradle my breast.

With the loud roar of a lion, he reached his climax seconds after I’d reached mine. Breathless and sweaty, we remained still for a few moments, letting the waves of pleasure sweep over us.

“Why do I always feel so good when I’m with you?” he said as he let himself fall back onto the bed.

I turned onto my side and nestled in the crux of his arm. “I could ask the same question. As anxious, scared and stressed as I was just moments ago, I now feel so at peace, so soothed and safe.”

He squeezed me tight, pressing me into his chest. “You must have been terrified when the dance studio caught fire.”

I nodded. “I’ve never had such a quick succession of emotions; surprise, confusion, fear for my safety, then fear and concern for Tuesday who was caught in the heart of it all. I was heartbroken when I saw her in the hospital... so small and fragile. Her face was badly burned and...” I looked into his eyes. “No doubt she’ll be seriously disfigured. She had the face of a doll and now...” I choked back the tears.

“We’ll find who did this,” Deacon said giving me another squeeze. “I promise you; we’ll find them.”

“I hope so.”

“Do you want a bit of good news?” he said with a wry grin.

“Good news? Sure. Let me have it.”
