Nothing is permanent. How true that statement is.

"You're right, Nora."

She crinkles her nose and takes a sip of her iced coffee.

The gender reveal party goes off without a hitch. Kyle arrives late in a blue Hawaiian shirt. I laugh hysterically at him when he tells me he had to raid his dad's closet because he only owns clothes in white, black and grey.

"The one blue shirt I have is in Boulder," he grumbles as I slide my hand in his. Audra wanted everyone to show up in pink and blue.

"I don't know," I bite my lip, "I think you could pull off this look."

He leans over and kisses the top of my head. "You look pretty good yourself." His hand slides down the back of my pink sundress and he squeezes my butt.

I swat his hand away and smack his chest. "My nephews are somewhere around here. You can't do that."

"Can't do what?" he retorts playfully. His hands find my waist and he walks me backwards until my back hits the glass window. I look around frantically, but no one is paying us any attention.

"Can I do this?" he whispers as he kisses my neck. I bite my lip to keep from moaning. "Or this?" His lips move up to mine and he sucks my bottom lip into his mouth, slowly lets it go. "This?" His voice is raspy and hot as he slides his hands over my chest. "If I can do those things, why can't I do this?" He slips his hands down my backside, grips meaty flesh firmly in both hands.

"You're impossible," I groan before giving in and kissing him.

"I love your ass, baby," he coos in my ear and my arms and legs ignite with goosebumps.

"Alright everyone!" we hear Diane announce, snapping us out of our moment. "It's time!"

Kyle plants a firm kiss on my lips before taking my hand and leading me over to the crowd. We jokingly elbow our way through, Kyle telling everyone the baby's favorite uncle has to be up front.

I haven't seen Matt today, but now he's standing beside Audra, a purple bruise decorating his handsome face.

They look tense, not even bothering to put on the act that they're happy together. I hate this. I hate that they can't figure things out. Especially for the baby.

Maybe moving to Boulder a month early wouldn't be such a bad idea. Maybe it would give Matt and Audra a chance to sort things out without me close by. Without Matt doing whatever it is he does at night when he thinks Audra's sleeping beside him.

Ugh.

I haven't even acknowledged what Audra told me yesterday outside the jail.

Hegoes through your pictures, Jenny.

I think distance will help. I would be moving there for Kyle and me. That's the main reason. So what if other people benefit from my absence? So what if I'm running from everything?

Kyle stands behind me and places his arms over my shoulders. I lean back into him. For a split second, Matt's eyes dart over to us and his face twists with anger and betrayal and hurt before rearranging back into a scowl.

"Boy or girl?" Kyle says into my ear.

"What?" I ask as I turn my head to look up at him.

"Do you think it's a boy or girl?"

I point to my pink dress. "Obviously it's going to be a girl."

"It's gonna be a boy," Kyle says matter-of-factly.

"Should we make a bet?" I suggest as someone sets a huge cardboard box decked out in pink and blue wrapping paper and a big black question mark in front of Matt and Audra.

"Deal," Kyle agrees. "If it's a boy, you have to move to Boulder next week."

"And if I win?" I smirk.
