Fuck. “You told me you understood,” I say, still confused.

“I know! But just because I said that still doesn’t make it okay! You still, at one point, wanted me dead. Don’t you understand how terrifying that is? Someone you love and that’s supposed to love you, wanted you dead.”

“Yes. I do. Need I remind you my own brother tried to fucking kill me? Us?” I remind her. Her face falls.

“I-I’m sorry, I don’t know why I said that,”

“I deserved it,” I say, shrugging my shoulders.

She sighs, then put her hands on her hips. “We can’t keep doing this back-and-forth thing, Issac. It’s exhausting,”

“I agree,” I say, staring at her. We stand in silence for a few moments, just staring at one another. I watch as tears begin to fall down her face. I take my chances and slowly walk over to her.

“Don’t” she says, putting her hand up. But instead of listening, I grab her wrist and pull her into me. She doesn’t fight me. She lets her walls crumble as she cries into my chest.

“I love you so much, it fucking hurts,” she cries into my shirt. I tighten my hold on her and rest my chin on the top of her head.

“I know. I’m so sorry. I’m hoping one day you’ll forgive me.”

“I’m trying,” she whispers.

“Can I just ask you to do one thing for me?” I ask, pulling her away so I can look at her. I wipe the tears from her cheeks. She takes a second to think about it and then nods. “Will you come see the house? That’s all I ask. I just want you to see it and feel what I felt what I felt when I saw it for the first time,”

She takes another second to think.

“Okay,”

Chapter Thirty-Three

Delilah

“Call me if you need me, okay?” Nathan says as he hugs me. Today Issac and I are headed out to Gardenstone.

“I will,” I say, pulling away. “I’ll see ya soon, buddy,” I say to Theo, rubbing the side of his head. I hear a car close and look behind me to see Issac walking up to us.

“Ready?” he asks. I nod and grab my bags. “I got them,” he says, taking them from me.

“I’ll text you when we get there,” I tell Nathan.

Issac and I get in his truck and he starts it up. He pulls up his GPS and starts the trip.

“37 hours?” I say, looking at the GPS as it calculates the direction.

“Uh, yeah. It’s a bit of a drive,” he says as he puts the truck in drive.

“You think?” I laugh. This is gonna be a long ass trip.

I have no clue where we are. All I know is that Issac’s been driving for ten hours straight. The only stops we made were to get food, hit up a bathroom and gas up.

“I think we’re gonna stop at this hotel up there,” Issac says, yawning and pointing at the GPS.

“Okay. I could go for a shower, honestly. I feel sweaty as fuck” I sigh, resting my head against the headrest. Issac nods in agreement, and then we go back to not talking and just listening to his music playlist.

We haven’t talked much since we left Nathan’s. There’s nothing really to talk about. Everything is just so confusing.

We pull into the hotel and park the truck. Issac jumps out and turns to me.

“I’m gonna go get us a room. I’ll be back,” he says. He turns on his heels and walks towards the hotel doors. I release a breath I was apparently holding. I slam my head back against the seats head rest and sigh.
